I was zoomed in on Google Maps following a really long river from source to mouth.

It’s shocks me, daily, that people are out there being bored. Like, do you not get distracted by the encyclopedia for hours?

Fun fact: bumblebees have been shown to engage in play without reward.

Please subscribe for more facts; I cannot contain them any longer.

Did you know Gary Numan and Randy Newman both released misotheistic albums, or music about hating God?

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 12 points 10 months ago

Wow that’s interesting I will have no practical use for this information

Did you know there’s a math formula to determine how arboreal a species of skink is? Their total length compared to the length of their toes determines how high they climb!

My wife is a reptile enthusiast and adored this fact

There's no such thing as boredom, only boring people.

Did you know that the Romans often determined important events through Alectryomancy? This is the mystical art of reading the future through a handful of chicken and how they peck at seed!

Subscribe. Is this service still active?

Did you know: early 20th century French blade sharpeners would lay face down, to preserve their posture and neck. But the work was cold, so they’d ’hire’ dogs to lay on their legs to keep them warm!

[–] Plopp@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Of course, who doesn't know that? That's what led to the great dog revolution of 1925 where they marched to Paris to demand equal pay and rights, which is why dogs have voting rights in France today. I think. And if it's not true it's still a fascinating story I made up right now. Either way, working face down to save the neck sounds pretty good. I should redo my work-from-home environment. Thanks for the fun fact!

I love looking around on google maps/earth. Especially now that the satellite quality is so good, you can zoom in pretty close.

Falling down Wikipedia rabbit holes is another good way to accidentally waste a few hours

Did you know that most of the US-Mexico border is one long river? Do no try to follow it trying to locate where the border deviates from the river...

I do this, but it's exploring railroad lines instead. I like to see what equipment the crossing signals have (you can sometimes run into some cool vintage or rare stuff) and sometimes the SV car catches a train passing.

[–] pearsaltchocolatebar 3 points 10 months ago

I did this once when a construction crew killed our MPLS connection. I had a picture of the crew repairing the line next to a railroad crossing, and a general direction from a major city to go off of.

Took a few hours, but I managed to find it.

You mean from butt to mouth

[–] ImplyingImplications@lemmy.ca 4 points 10 months ago (2 children)

You never go from butt to mouth

[–] BigDanishGuy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

Randal Graves : I don't fuck around when it comes to ass-to-mouth. Dante Hicks : You never go ass-to-mouth. Randal Graves : It's never my idea. These young girls, they get all horned up and they tell you to go ass-to-mouth.

oh boi, do I have some news for you..

[–] Kiosade@lemmy.ca 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

(Looks left)

(Looks right)

… I did that recently because of my ADHD? I thought everyone did it. You know, like when you imagine a guy running along the scenery in car rides as a kid.

[–] Danquebec@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 months ago

Wait other people do that??

[–] BigDanishGuy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

You mean people are finding the origin of waterways and follow them down stream? How do you find the origin? I always go up stream on maps

[–] irdc@derp.foo 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

What river? Asking for a friend...

[–] YoorWeb@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Nile. There's a section I'm Nubia (Sudan) where Nile flows South instead of North and I'm telling you man, it's a wild ride.

[–] BulbasaurBabu@lemmings.world 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Why are you all doing this to me? :-(
