Is spez Mormon? Because he looks super Mormon.

[–] Endorkend@kbin.social 19 points 2 years ago (2 children)

He used to moderate jailbait.

So yeah, Christian or Mormon for sure.

[–] LollerCorleone@kbin.social 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Has it been proven that he used to mod jailbait?

[–] AlligatorBlizzard@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Apparently you used to be able to give mod status to any random redditor without them having to accept it, so even if he was made mod it doesn't actually mean much. Fuck Spez though.

[–] livejamie@lemm.ee 8 points 2 years ago

Yeah, people would make Obama and spez mods of their subs for the lulz; it's a disingenuous rumor to lie to spread about a person who has plenty of shitty things about him that people can discuss.

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago

He both looks and acts the part.

You shouldn't judge somebody by his.. ah,..

Goddam, you're right.

Wait, hold up. Is he actually Mormon?

Edit: I looked around briefly and there doesn't seem to be any clear evidence for him being Mormon or part of the lds church.

But also, Mormons love porn. There have been multiple studies from porn websites and Google that show that Utah has not only one of the highest per-capita consumption of porn, but also have a major (iirc, majority) interest in trans women. Which is... fascinating.

Edit2: jk, looks like my info is old. The trans and Mormon thing was from like 2009 and may be a shitty study by one guy on subscription porn. It seems like NOW, utahians don't use pornhub at all, but this year there was a huge increase in VPNs. (/s) but also, https://www.pornhub.com/insights/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/pornhub-insights-2022-year-in-review-united-states-relative-searches-by-state-map_.png 2022 by state, directly from pornhub

Utah looooves their porn. But they're conflicted by it, what with the religious shame and all, which is why the Utah legislature passed a bill to require webcam access/facial verification/age verification before you can access porn sites (thus causing PornHub to stop operating in Utah).

something tells me the increase in VPNs and drop in pornhub usage in Utah is because pornhub literally doesn't work in Utah anymore unless you have a VPN

lmao is he banning NSFW now? R*ddit is sinking fast

[–] meldroc@kbin.social 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Not just the porn subs. A bunch of the weed subs got banned, and the rest got NSFW'd because Mormon Spez wants Reddit as G-rated as Disneyland for the IPO. Why if anyone saw a weed post, it'd make an investor wet their magic underwear!

[–] hellequin67@lemmy.fmhy.ml 4 points 2 years ago

Of course he does, because they can't advertise/monetize NSFW subs.

Which is why when they were forced to come back some subs flagged themselves as NSFW.

Isn't Tumblr just a shadow of it's former self because Verizon bought it and killed the NSFW accounts?

Checking Wikipedia, yeah, Yahoo owned it. Verizon bought Yahoo.

~ Yahoo bought Tumblr for $1.1 billion in 2013
~ Verizon bought Yahoo (which was big and bloated) for $4.83 billion (including Tumblr) in 2017.
~ Automattic (the guys that own Wordpress) bought Tumblr for less than $3 million from Verizon in 2019.

We don't quite have enough information to make this a cautionary tale, but it sure smacks of being a cautionary tale.
