Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

We're doing Christmas Lunch today, since yesterday was a bust. Mum is hosting and out of all of us she's the only one without a dishwasher but she will NOT let anyone take over from her, lol. We haven't done gifts for several years and have always stressed that it's a low key affair but somehow having it on not-Christmas-Day seems like a much more attractive idea.

Question for the group: will you be venturing out into Boxing Day Sale Madness? What have you got in mind to score cheap?

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 7 points 11 months ago

No plans for me. While there appears to be big discounts on black Friday and boxing day, etc, in my experience this is an illusion and you can get similar prices year round if you shop around.

Unnecessary shopping?? Fuck no!

The last thing I need is more hassle, Christmas carols and horrible shit I really don't need :)

I just can't understand how some shop as a hobby/past-time...

I placed a click and collect order at Supercheap Auto, which I picked up before 9am. That’s about it so far for me. Other things I was looking for either aren’t discounted or would be ordered online anyway. Don’t really like waiting in queues in crowded shops with no parking.

Enjoy your lunch!

I have actually never been out shopping on Boxing day in my life. Always low key wanted to but spending time with family is nicer, and it's not their scene.

We went to Hataitai beach and swam several times, which is unlikely, but the water was warm and the sun was hot.

It's lovely how it hasn't been too humid today.

Sounds like there's a family game of racing demons going on tonight... (like a collective game of patience/solitaire where your cards you get out are scored and everyone's racing to finish. Frantic multitasking!)

First I've heard of Racing Demons, seems a bit similar to Speed.

We got Five Tribes so will be playing that sometime soon.

Yeah, similar vein. Gets the kids competing nicely with the adults, too

Christmas a bit weird this year because one of us got admitted to hospital which is a bit scary. I haven't had much awake downtime and am struggling a bit but really grateful to St Johns.

Nice to have a rest and check out lemmy.

Does anyone actually like turkey better than chicken? Also, is it my imagination or are Roses chocolates actually nice again?

[–] ColonialSpore@lemmy.nz 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Sorry to hear about your recent events. Situations like these are so stressful. Our experience with St John was just awesome. They really do know their stuff. Hope things have improved for you and your family.

[–] liv@lemmy.nz 2 points 10 months ago

Thank you. I'm hopeful that things are coming right. We decided to do xmas day part 2 another day when they are better.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Oh man I'm sorry to hear that, I hope everyone is OK now.

I have had some really nice turkey before, but I've also had really nice chicken. I guess turkey is kinda like chicken but a lot more meat, for feeding more people. I don't think we had either at Christmas this year!

I haven't had Roses in many years so can't answer that one!

I just tried them for the first time in years and they had one with a passionfruit flavour!

Thanks, they are still in hospital but coming right I hope.

Sounds like they got worse!

Just kidding, but I don't really like passionfruit.

My walk in, paddle out trip to the Otaki river went well, I'm pretty knackered now though. I don't think we'd go all the way down to the three bridges if we did it again though.

Very cool! I can imagine you must be exhausted!

[–] thevoyagekayaking@lemmy.nz 2 points 10 months ago

I did have a wee nap when I got home.
