One of the things I find cool about Kbin is the fact that it's a platform for both thread aggregation and microblogging. How much do you use the latter side of things? Do you make microblog posts, actively browse the microblog tab, view them in your home feed, or rarely touch them?

Never, I have Mastodon for that.

[–] ThatOneKirbyMain2568@kbin.social 2 points 11 months ago

Understandable. I personally don't care quite enough about microblogging to use a dedicated app for it. Much prefer using it in bits and pieces alongside threads.

I'll sometimes boost a post, put that is the extent of my engagement. However, I have never cared for microblogging in general.

[–] Chozo@kbin.social 5 points 11 months ago

Rarely. I'll use it to upvote the Caturday posts, though. But I mostly use a separate Firefish account for any actual microblogging.

only if the magazine rules say I have to use microblogging instead of a normal post

I have no interest in microblogging, I don't see what's the point of it

I actually joined kbin specifically because it had both of these features. I have read some microblogs, but haven't determined how I fit in with that culture enough to interact. Magazines are more like the bulletin boards of the past, which I am very familiar with. I like the opportunity to interact with the microblogs, tho, and don't expect to create another account just for that. I like this setup very much!

Pretty much only threads as someone who has come from Reddit, I've avoided microblogging, never used Twitter before, hence I don't at all.

[–] Ragemidi@kbin.burggit.moe 4 points 11 months ago

I use it about half and half. It's nice not having to use another instance to post random thoughts yet be able to make threads. That said, microblogging could use some work.

Despite not being a fan of Twitter, I've actually really enjoyed the microblogging side of Kbin. I have my home feed set to Subscriptions (All Content), so I get a nice mix of threads from my favorite magazines and microblog posts with relevant tags. I also occasionally make microblog posts for things that I feel wouldn't warrant full threads, such as small bits of pixel art or idkbin updates. Unfortunately, these don't seem to federate to other microblogging platforms particularly well, and I ironically get more interaction from Lemmy (which just shoves Kbin microblog posts into its threads feed) than Mastodon.

I think once I accidentally made a microblog when I meant to start a thread in a magazine? It felt super vague and I basically haven’t bothered making too-level posts since. I just lurk and post snark.

Wherever I have a question that is not worth of making a full thread of.

3,7% of my input activity consists of (microblog) posts.

[–] insomniac_lemon@kbin.social 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I've made 4 and replied on them 22 times. I actually haven't made any threads here yet for whatever reason, despite doing so on other forum-like sites before.

Though yeah, the last one I made I noticed the replies weren't getting properly federated to the 2 users (on lesser-known, more mastodon-type instances) I was trying to reply to (they saw it and replied, but I could only see this on their instances).

I don't use Kbin for microbloging. Had started at Mastodon.social>Kbin>Misskey.io .
Switched from posting from Mastodon to Misskey as more people I would enjoy content or would watch my content (well being En speaking on JP server has it -) but I play Arknights and do silly challenge clear that I enjoy, so posting it there with # that will pickup our kbin magazine. Most of art is on Misskey.io as it is on the rumours for many was, but they limited it to Japanese with ever new server being English one.
So use Kbin Microblog to see anything interesting show up on magazine or just in general. Mastodon for "war" news and reports while Misskey for fan art.

I used to in the beginning but soon realized it's either kinda dead (people don't use it, people from lemmy don't even see it) or completely filled with spam (because the magazine has some generic tags).

It also didn't work reliably and it wasn't clear which posts go to Mastodon and which don't, but that might have been resolved since.

It's a neat idea for small discussions or questions that don't warrant a thread, but it needs better implementation and wider adoption in order to be actually useful.

I like it but don't use it often.

@ThatOneKirbyMain2568

  1. microblog posts: rarely, but once in a while
  2. microblog replies: don't work atm, but i like it!
  3. microblog tab: depending on whether i have to micro-manage or not:
  • kbin's mod tools are buggy, e.g. an account banned from a magazine can still spam the microblogging section > mods better look inside the microblog tab ...
  • otherwise depending on my mood
  1. viewing microblog posts in my home feed: all the time - i like it even more on kbin than on specific microblogging fedi platforms tbh
  2. aggregated view is great! i keep boosting loads of microblog posts via kbin ✨
[–] ThatOneKirbyMain2568@kbin.social 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, aggregate view is the best, and I think it's currently one of the big advantages Kbin has over other fediverse platforms. Hopefully we see more improvements to microblogs once Ernest is done with the new ActivityPub module.

[–] testing@kbin.social 2 points 11 months ago

@ThatOneKirbyMain2568
i hope so, too!

if mod tools worked better, the microblogging sections could become even more interesting in terms of content, and less of a hassle for moderators 🙏

Roughly 0.01%. Mostly accidentally.
