Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • These rules are somewhat loosened when the subject is a public figure. Still, do not attack their person or incite harrassment.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

Same thing I did with it this year. Send emails, write documents, watch movies, watch YouTube, play KSP and Astroneer, program some c++, design hobby PCBs, look at porn...

Time to rice the ever loving sh*t out of my WM.

The term is often defined as offensive or racist stereotyping

What if I told you your username is one of the biggest insults you can say to a South African?

I'll continue using my awesome setup I created. I have proxmox cluster with docker hosting Nextcloud, Jellyfin and a bunch of other services.

I especially like Jellyfin as I have a bunch of content and live TV. (DVRs rock)

Start using a Linux laptop for web surfing and development work.

    [–] cetvrti_magi@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I plan to start using Nextcloud, switch to XMonad and optimize my workflow a bit.

My answer is boring. Almost nothing. I feel like I finally have things dialed in. Except maybe my desktop experience. But beyond that the most i see myself doing is making some upgrades to my PC like a larger nvme drive since i edit with resolve on a 500GB nvme & if you've worked with clips in resolve on Linux you know how huge the files can be. One project can be 50 GBs.

Still distro hopping, will explore the world of Fedora.

    [–] rockhandle@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Will probably cave into the WM craze

    [–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What's this craze? I've not heard about it.

    [–] sherlockholmez@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

    Window Managers.

Tiling Window Managers like i3wm are all the craze right now.

    [–] victorz@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Oh window managers. I thought you meant VM, like virtual machine. W vs V, my bad.

Yes, they are the shit. Been using tiling for over a decade. Very nice stuff.

Maybe uninstall Arch and switch to FreeBSD... Sorry Tux!

I want to finally create my own keymap to finally have language specific letters on my arch Linux laptop.

Get to Linux and use full vms on windows Hopefully And an AMD card

    [–] RobotZap10000@feddit.nl 2 points 1 year ago

Once (or if) Valve adds Linux Steam Link support for the Oculus Quest 3, I'll be VR gaming on Linux!

    [–] bort@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

At work, a partner plans on migrating a prod server from windows to linux next year.

This will give me the opportunity to lobby for migrating some of our servers as well.

    [–] Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi 2 points 1 year ago

Try and stick to Arch for at least six months, if not a year. I have a bad distro-hopping habit lol.

Got a old piece of hardware that I want to breathe new life into as an NAS. Going to learn me some more about file systems and networks.

This new year is my year of Wayland. I've got Hyprland going on my new work laptop. Still using my old one with i3 for the time being since I'm too busy during the day to thinker around, but I'm slowly getting this new one ready. Hopefully will be done by the new year.

    [–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What do you like about Hyprland compared to i3? I've been using i3 reliably for over a decade, but did try Hyprland and thought it just felt like a new Compiz in its default state. What drives you to it?

    [–] Neil@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's pretty much exactly what drove me to it, plus the excuse to get started on Wayland. Like it or not I think Wayland is the future.

I've been on i3 for near a decade for what it's worth.

    [–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Interesting. So the wobbly animations and stuff is up your alley, basically?

    Upgrade to Pop!_OS 24.04.

Use it - and the new Firefox version (I like .DEBs) - to keep cursing that terrorist group that refuses to die and everybody refuses to take action or acknowledge its crimes.

This post reminded me, I forgot to install Neofetch on my machine for months.

Edit : some people apparently misunderstood who I was referring to, I am referring to the Zionist entity.

I want Void Linux encrypted volume out of the box and libre kernel version

    [–] rottingleaf@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 year ago

Migrate to Slackware from Void on my laptop probably. I miss it.

    [–] Whisper06@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

I’ll hopefully get my uConsole next year and I plan to do a WM arch setup

    [–] Arthur_Leywin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Tux me boi, I'm just hopeful for NVK before x11 is unsupported for future releases of Fedora/Nobara.
