Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Pfft. They said 2019 was the hottest year on record. Scientist are so dumb.

It's neat how both of those will be accurate statements every year for as long as we live.

Take a video of yourself enjoying the outdoors or going to a restaurant or cafe .... your descendants will wonder how rich, wealthy and privileged you were to be able to do such things.

Until 2024 of course....

It's extremely frustrating how this just keeps happening. And people and leaders are still like "nyeeh, don't wanna fix it".

The records won't stop coming. How many more times do we have to break the same goddamn record of hottest year in history before the world gets it?

I mean, the scientists already pretty much threw up their hands and admitted, “I mean, fuck it, it’s probably already too late.”

And unfortunately, the nut jobs are somehow getting louder and louder here too. That's the worst part.

The people whining about the cost of electricity, about the damage caused by bushfires and such are also the ones who are removing trees from their back yard, and whining about electric cars as they drive their dodge ram 1500
