I thought all the protein buildup Alzheimer's stuff was debunked and the original study data was fabricated. Did I miss something?

I'm not sure what exactly you're aware of that was debunked. I'm down to find out, though.

Here's a link to the study and here's the press release about the study. For what it's worth, it was mentioned in both that they're not sure how or why this worked, that it's preliminary findings, and that there's lots more research to do.
