I want to see people saying "That's my Hanseatic League" or "How often do you think about the Oxus Civilization?"

My thoughts about the Roman empire are largely because we are the inheritors of all its baggage. Roman columns. Latin. The catholic Church. Etc

That and “Oh man this empire I live in sure is collapsing”

Every civilization is an honorary Roman empire. Except the Roman empire they're honorary Hittites.

Hittites

Maybe we should make "The Sea People" a slang term for something ruining your ambitions.

Because the hanseatic league was a bunch of boring traders and didn't do cool forts and famous dick joke vandalism

Yeah but they basically invented modern industrial brewing. Plus cool paintings and shit.

Rome was in the bible. Rome executed Jesus and then became a Christian state. Rome took over the entire Mediterranean. That's why they're memed so hard.

Imagine if this was a country today:

This means literally nothing to people who live outside of Europe. Congratulations they united the Mediterranean. China existed at the same time too and continued to exist for the next 2000 years with the same borders intact minus a few hiccups. Rome not only imploded it was also fucking backwards along with the rest of Europe and the people that inhabit it are fucking savages unlike the rest of the world. The Polynesians are the true civilization carriers of all of humanity, they colonize far off islands and shit peacefully, eat all kinds of fruit, fought giant birds, had the lowest working hours in history, I mean read some of the accounts they had of early Hawaii, shit was so efficient they got done working by noon and surfed all day, that is success and agriculturalists were suffering all day.

shrug-outta-hecks i'm just saying why rome gets memed. i didn't say the reasons were good

yeah but you don't get memed by relaxing and leaving everyone alone. you get memed by being messy and loving drama, like rome.

Rome was western asia's China, it's just like China never reunited from a warring states period.

There are definitely a lot of people who are interested in Roman history and are not fascists or racists.

Buuuuut it’s also true that Roman history sure does attract a disproportionate share of fascists and racists.

I thought you were going to mention the Sumer civilization. Or at least the Greek.

Those are still pretty mainstream. Now the Kingdom of Aksum! That's an original!

They wish they could be as cool as Minoa!

I just want more people talking about the Tartarian Empire and the mud flood that they're hiding the truth about

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

It isn't much better on our end where people only talk about the Mayans. There were other groups that outlasted them with their own fascinating histories, but the Mayans had pyramids and pyramids are cool.

How often do you think about the Bronze Age collapse sea people?

[–] MoreAmphibians@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

Theirs is the first name I curse when I wake up and the last thing I think about before plunging my room into darkness the way they plunged the Mediterranean into darkness.
