I’m dancing-on-photons happy to reveal the cover by Rita Fei for my upcoming solarpunk novel, Murder in the Tool Library. You can pre-order it on this site as well as on some more mainstream ones. The paperbook will be available on Barnes and Noble closer to the release date on Dec 8th.

Thanks! 💚 You may recognize Rita Fei’s work from the Multispecies Cities anthology.

Great cover art, compelling title, intriguing premise, very reasonable price.

I love it. Fun, nice, life, youths, beautiful. I'm all for it!

Thanks! Hope you enjoy the story. 💚

Hi! Any chance to buy it from a DRM free site (e.g. Gumroad) or perhaps an indie book seller? I prefer to stay away from Amazon but need something compatible with their e-reader.

The ebook is DRM free everywhere. I hear you about hating Amazon. You’ll be able to get it off this indie site after the release date. https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/1476498

Looks great! What does Murder in the Tool Library mean?

[–] AEMarling@slrpnk.net 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A tool library is part of an expanded library of things in a library economy.

[–] pomodoro_longbreak@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sometimes also called, more broadly, a lending library.

[–] threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Are there non-lending libraries? I thought we called those "museums" or "stores".

[–] amelore@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I also think of public libraries when I hear library; but technically yes. There are libraries where you can go read the material but not lend it out.

[–] JacobCoffinWrites@slrpnk.net 6 points 1 year ago

That's a good point! I suppose a makerspace might be an example of a non-lending tool library (like, you have to go there to use the tools) though I'm sure some do lend stuff out as well

True! I forgot that reference libraries are a thing.

I just want to say that I love that this book isn't on Amazon (or is but I just can't find it). I'm an author as well and the amount of focus there is on "get your book on Amazon!!!" drives me bonkers. Evil evil corporation, as we know (here anyways).

Anyways that aside, cover is gorgeous, and the blurb is super intriguing. Like, a murder in a place full of things you can murder someone with? That's a neat premise.

I'll set a reminder to grab it from smashwords on the 8th!

Thanks! Yes, Amazon is distilled capitalism and can fuck off!

Much as I love the design, this is an advert.

Remember when we came to the fediverse to get away from advertising?

[–] Starkstruck@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh c'mon, there's a stark difference between advertising from mega corps and an individual's new book.

[–] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

..until hundreds of individuals start doing it

[–] ThePyroPython@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'd rather hundreds of individuals who contribute to the community posting here "Hey I made this cool thing, please check it out if you like." Because that grows the community. Rather than tens of AstroTurf accounts shilling for corporations.

That's a great way to put it, thanks. I do see @Mr_Blott's point, but as long as we we're in charge of what is and isn't acceptable in this community, then the slippery slope can only slip so far.

[–] Five@slrpnk.net 15 points 1 year ago

@AEMarling is a regular contributor to the Slrpnk community. I support their individual solarpunk-related projects.

[–] three@lemm.ee -2 points 1 year ago

agreed. this is a slippery slope. i'll be pirating this book out of principle.
