A few months ago I would have been excited. But as the quality of responses has decreased, so has my use of GPT, to the point where I'm no longer even wanting an Android app.

I think the new beta features made it a lot better. Mainly Custom instructions and the code interpreter. Using them generates much better responses.

Is there any advantage to an app over just using the site on mobile?

Iirc the iPhone app has a speech to text function. Other than that probably better performance.

there are already versions out there who are exactly this.

runs local, and you can even add your own models.

Is this any good though...?

[–] Cyyy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

supports countless different models. on my shotty notebook i could only run the smallest one, so I can't really say much about good the models are. but should be easy to load your owns in it.

I lack so much understanding on AI. Models? Meaning what, exactly, like the "model" that OpenAI uses in ChatGPT can be loaded into this, effectively using ChatGPT?

[–] unavailable@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

In the simplest term, a model is the AI. While the program gpt4all is just what runs the model. Without going into too much technical details, these local ones only has about 7.4% of the training data of ChatGPT. In my experience it cause the AI to sometimes skip part of the prompt, or not understanding context.

Well this is nice I guess, what is it about it with all the other existent apps?

I never tried any of them.
