I miss r/actuallesbians, r/MTF, and some obscure gaming communties like r/titanfall, r/Metroid and r/Earthbound.
Oh and the brainrot known as r/okbuddychicanery and r/anarchychess.
Relaxed section for discussion and debate that doesn't fit anywhere else. Whether it's advice, how your week is going, a link that's at the back of your mind, or something like that, it can likely go here.
Subcommunities on Beehaw:

I'd like a trans community (I am transmasculine, however). To some extent the reddit trans subs are not my ideal, but I can't articulate what my ideal would be.
Any and all of the sports subreddits. Nothing brings more user engagement (positive and negative) than game threads for sporting events. The sooner we can get a thriving sports community going, the faster Lemmy or any social media app will grow.
I’ve setup an instance focused on some niche topics and hobbies, there’s not much there yet but here they are if anyone wants!
FFXIV → https://possumpat.io/c/ffxiv
Bugs → https://possumpat.io/c/bugmenagerie
Esports → https://possumpat.io/c/esports
Gundam → https://possumpat.io/c/gundam
Star Trek → https://possumpat.io/c/startrek
Something akin to /r/CharacterRant with interesting critique and analysis of media. Most of the same rules would apply and as long as people don't get into flame wars it would be a great fit for Beehaw. It would require a good bit of moderation, though.
Mystery, true crime, or r/RBI type content would be all it takes to solidify my place here. Many of those communities across the web lean into their toxicity, so I’m crossing my fingers for a sane place to engage in discussion and participate in deep dives.
Even more specifically, subs like r/whatisthisthing or r/toyid are fun for people who enjoy some light sleuthing. Anyone know if there’s a Lemmy equivalent or adjacent to any of these?
Off the top of my head communities like
r/3rprinting r/instantpot r/todayilearned r/therewasanattempt r/space r/changemyview r/unpopularopinion
I would personally like a fine art related community. Something for critique and discussion of art and art history. It seems like many places I’ve been before turn their nose up at anything abstract or outside the realms of traditional western art.
I glanced briefly, but couldn't find a topic on it. What's the stance on NSFW (i.e. porn, art, etc.)?
r/analog, and more generally r/photography
I'd like to see a book suggestion community with a decent number of requests. Something like r/booksuggestions or r/suggestmeabook. Most of what I did on Reddit was recommend books in response to requests.
I wouldn't mind seeing a New England community, either. Or Massachusetts one. I'd start one up, but I don't know if I could handle the moderation responsibilities!
r/vegan
And in no way, am I saying I would like to recreate that community, but a vegan friendly space with Beehaw's core values, just sound amazing to me. r/vegancirclejerk was great too, but I had personal issues with the mods.
Ditto but for r/vegetarian, which had a lot of vegan users too. I want to talk about cooking, but not have to wade through posts about meat to do it.
Definitely r/retrogaming and r/gamecollecting.
r/LiveFromNewYork, r/whatcouldgowrong, r/sploot, r/greebles, r/blep, r/GooglePixel
For me it's all the photography-related communities. Photography, Cinematography, Analog, & Astrophotography are the primary ones.
r/ImSorryJon
Eldritch horror Garfield is essential to any online community.
r/babybumps, r/financialindependence, r/benignexistence
I'd really like to see a photography community pop up. Not necessarily a /fujifilm /leica community, but a general photography place for folks to share their snaps, and get advice about techniques and gear.
A lot of these communities already exist on several instances. If you're not already aware of https://lemmyverse.net/communities I encourage y'all to peep it
/r/chaosmagick
https://midwest.social/c/vaporwave is a specific one along the lines of synthwave. I also created https://midwest.social/c/synths for any synth players out there. :)
I really enjoy the specific game based communities but obv that is a bit of an umbrella.
It's really handy for console specific communities too.
Looking for "local" city and state/province communities. A place to talk about local politics, share information on upcoming events/festivals, talk about traffic and weather.
But reality is Lemmy isn't that big yet. So maybe start regional like how midwest.social is doing and divide it up when activity is too much to handle.
Game related communities (/r/tf2, /r/chess to name a few!)
Edit: Just realised I want some tech-related stuff like /r/homelab, /r/selfhosted, /r/privacy, /r/homeserver and more too
gotta have one for ~~my crack addiction~~ Destiny
I'd like to see a community specifically dedicated to tabletop RPGs. Don't think I've seen one of those yet.
Tabletop has what i see as 3 main variants which are rather separate communities:
Each has a gazillion little subdivisions, and there's related interests like miniature painting, terrain building, sculpting and others, but i guess a "tabletop" community would do until we grow more
For boardgames we have !boardgames@feddit.de which is pretty new but already has some fun threads. There is also !soloboardgaming@lemmy.ml and !tabletop@lemmy.ml that are not as active yet.
