I will dispute the notion that you can disambiguate between old and new Spocks by hotness.

[–] Moxvallix@sopuli.xyz 19 points 1 year ago

yeah fair, based

What they have:

Literal magic

Immortal Vulcans that are a bit more chill

Personal cloaking device

Weapons that are impervious to scattering fields and ionized atmospheric radiation that renders phasers inoperable.

What we have

(see meme)

I see no downsides.

[–] Tenthrow@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I mean are they chill though?

[–] A_Toasty_Strudel@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Historically speaking Tolkien's elves aren't exactly known for being chill. Ha

[–] theodewere@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

pretty sure Feanor was an Elf, and that dude had exactly the least amount of chill

"Sure, root beer drinking humie, you can wed my daughter, if you bring me a jewel. It's somewhere in Minas Corva, good luck, there are five lights, seeyoudeadbye..."

[–] abbadon420@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

Sure they are. They're just a wee bit racist. "If your fitlhy dwarve wants to pass through our woods, he must be blindfolded and our lord and lady will get to decide if he leaves the woods alive or not."

Elves be crazy. Half the time they're in a giant strop about something or other usually beyond human comprehension because it's so petty.

Personal cloaking device

Star Trek has that, too.

Weapons that are impervious to scattering fields and ionized atmospheric radiation that renders phasers inoperable.

And that:

Also the TR-116

  • “Any sufficiently advanced technology appears to be magic to the primitive” — Picard, paraphrased

  • Vulcans are functionally immortal (remember)

  • ST also has personal cloaks. And transporters (better than giant eagles that only take you halfway)

  • Worf would do like a word about the Bat’leth and other assorted slicey things

You slayed them for sure!
he's dead jim

LotR: Hot elves.
Trek: Hot space elves.

[–] Shep19@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lotr does have that pipe weed though.

[–] bingbong@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 year ago

Replicator pipe weed just isn't dank enough 😔

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 13 points 1 year ago

The budget vulcans and the hot variant killed me

[–] shiveyarbles@beehaw.org 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You also have jar jar binks

[–] Moxvallix@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 year ago

its amazing that such few words can cause so much pain

i hate this… well done

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If we have jarjar, that means we also have space wizards.

[–] shiveyarbles@beehaw.org 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're going to need them against the Cylons

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 year ago

And the Borg Queen Amidala

[–] adj16@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

I am deeply offended and highly amused

[–] ikapoz@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

No mention of salted pork or second breakfast. Obviously propoganda from a Big Trek shill

[–] EmergMemeHologram@startrek.website 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Many times it's been argued that Aragorn and his ghost army would sweep over the Federation, but Janeway was able to protect her ship from ghosts and the Federation figured out how to kill them and turn them into super fuel.

I don't think even a Balrog of Morgoth could stand a chance against federation stience.

Never mind all that; Star Trek has LOTR itself!
