Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Cheeto chump needs to rot behind bars wearing his favorite orange color.

[–] magnetosphere@kbin.social 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I prefer the term Mango Mussolini, but Cheeto Chump definitely works.

I get the feeling Trump will win this election even if he loses 80-20.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 year ago

Scotus is making me nervous as well.

Stop this nihilist BS and vote like it’s your last chance.

I don't understand why the republicans want to be in power. Climate change disasters are arriving faster and faster now, who the fuck would want to be responsible for governing during that mess?!?

[–] RocksForBrains@lemm.ee 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They aren't interested in governing. They want to cash each other out using your tax dollars.

[–] clutchmatic@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Yes. 100% this. To the public, they blame and demonize "the opposition" and pass laws that help get votes. To the insiders within the GOP, they modify laws to make it easier to reroute government money to their inner circle of politicians and businessmen

Easy, just do what they have always done. Just say the previous admin/party failed to prevent/account for this issue proceed to do nothing about it; put in legislation to make it harder for people to vote against them; stymie any attempts to fix it by saying the other party is trying to sabotage the country; and if they lose their positions of power, say the current admin caused and aren't fixing the problems your party ignored.

Yep. Double Santa Claus Theory hard at work…

[–] CapgrasDelusion@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

They will (some already do) claim that climate change is real but not man-made, it's natural and inevitable. So rather than spending money on green initiatives they need to spend money on weapons/the military to defend resources they have and take resources they don't. They'll make cash making and selling weapons and their base will eat it all up as long as it's other people doing most of the dying. Maybe even if not.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

The trick is to not believe in it. And if you do, find a way to profit off of it, bonus points for hurting minorities, women, and the poor.

I still don't know how the fat fuck hasn't had a massive heart attack with all the shit being piled on his plate. The dude must truly live in an alternative reality in the mush that is his brain.

I can't read his quotes without seeing his raised index finger scrunching up and down as his voice reaches his thundering scream at the end. His pod cast is one of my favorites.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

He’s incapable of shame or guilt. So why would he be bothered by anything? Dude lives in a la-la land of his own creation where he is impervious to any moral code.

I bet $20 that trump won't get convicted of anything. But I also bet $20 that he flees to russia if he does.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago (6 children)

But I also bet $20 that he flees to russia

Man, I've been expecting him to do that since before Biden's inauguration day.

Frankly, I'm amazed that so little has happened since Jan 6. By this amount of time after the Beer Hall Putsch, Hitler had already been arrested, tried, convicted, wrote his manifesto, and released.

[–] Mic_Check_One_Two@reddthat.com 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah, I fully expected him to be on a plane to Russia as Biden was being sworn in, so he could start calling himself President-in-Exile.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Given what he knows, who he could hurt, and how bad he is at keeping his mouth shut, I would havw thought somebody would have slipped him some polonium tea by now.

[–] Grumble@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Putin is distracted. Much cheaper, should it come to that, to pay one of the Trump fail-children to smother daddy with a pillow.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Exactly! That would've been the smart thing to do both in terms of protecting himself from prosecution and from playing up the persecuted martyr angle to push the "Biden is illegitimate" narrative and gain even more support from his base, I think.

I still can't decide if the fact that he failed to do that is because he was making a mistake, or because his apparent confidence that he wouldn't actually be held accountable was a more correct assessment of America than mine. The longer all this drags on without an arrest, the more worried I am that it's the latter!

The Secret Service will not let that happen.

[–] bloopernova@programming.dev 5 points 1 year ago

I thought most of his protection detail were true believer conservatives? I think they'd either applaud and go with him, or he'd give them the slip. Via the application of brown envelopes full of cash.

[–] ImFresh3x@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (9 children)

The case is rock solid. But in 12 people there’s probably a nut case cultist. That said, there’s no way the feds let him get to Russia. Trump will count on a pardon. And he’ll probably get it, if he doesn’t die first.

My earlier comment was sarcastic. I forgot the /s.

[–] SpezCanLigmaBalls@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Damn lol people got pissed

[–] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I thought that it was a meme by now. I get it. I stayed pissed for 4 years. I’m glad they’re still pissed before the next election. Better to be pissed than complacent. You can downvote me all you want, as long as you vote.
