Congressman Ken Buck, a Republican from Weld County, says his office in Windsor will soon be forced to move after receiving an eviction notice. Buck, a longtime resident of Weld County, received an eviction notice from his Water Valley office space.

A spokesperson for Buck said the eviction notice was given as a result of Buck's refusal to vote for Jim Jordan as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Buck also told reporters he received death threats due to his voting against Jordan for the position which would put Jordan second in line for the presidency.

I suppose that's a hazard when you rent your office space from fascists: if you later go against fascism even a little bit, they might take revenge on you.

You fundamentally misunderstand fascism.

Reminds me of a story I read visiting a war museum in Germany. After the first world war, German veterans were treated badly. They were blamed for the loss. So this guy in Dresden starts a charity to help them. Gains a lot of support. Becomes popular. Then the nazis come along. They promise to help veterans and are popular with veterans. So like many veterans, this guy joins the nazi party. Loyal supporter from the early days. True believer. Raises money for them. Continues to do charity work and supports the nazi party. Does his bit and helps them gain power and win the elections locally.

So they killed him and burn down the headquarters of his charity. Because loyalty is not enough.

Fascists hold those beneath them in contempt. They are chauvinists who hate the weak. They despise their followers, because they are loyal and perceive this as weakness. Because they allowed themselves to be subjugated by the leader.

You know who hates Donald Trump's supporters the most? Donald Trump. NYT:

Mr. Trump said in a task force meeting that one benefit of the pandemic was that he no longer would have to shake hands with his supporters. “I don’t like shaking hands with people,” Ms. Troye quoted Mr. Trump as saying. “I don’t have to shake hands with these disgusting people.” ... "Oh, he talked all the time about the people themselves being disgusting,” Ms. Troye told me in an interview on Friday. “It was clear immediately that he wanted nothing to do with them.” ...

The whole fascist enterprise is a sado-masochistic pyramid. People licking the boot in adoration, who get to put the boot on those below them in the pyramid, and despise those below them in the pyramid.

Who are they even renting from?

[–] squiblet@kbin.social 60 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Looks like it was an arrangement with a group called Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. I’m sure they only served as landlords in a market rate agreement and surely didn’t seek any favors or influence.

[–] krazylink@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Isn't that the government group behind the Got Milk campaign?

[–] squiblet@kbin.social 27 points 1 year ago

It’s not a government group. It’s a corporate dairy consortium that has about 22% of the milk market in the US. They own a large number of regional brands.

The eviction is literally that.

I mean, I recognize that you were being sarcastic, but I want to point out that that's literally this story.

[–] squiblet@kbin.social 17 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

The eviction is literally what? Them attempting to influence his decisions? Yes, to drop the sarcasm, I’m not at all surprised. It seems questionable that his landlord was a multi-billion dollar industry group.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

The eviction is literally what? Them attempting to influence his decisions?

Exactly. Or at least to send a warning to others.

Yes, to drop the sarcasm, I’m not at all surprised. It seems question that his landlord was a multi-billion dollar industry group.

As is tradition.

Meh, a big part of me thinks this is misdirection, like maybe he owed a bunch of back-rent and was being evicted, but now instead of being a broke deadbeat, now he can claim that he's Being Oppressed.

I was in middle of unconsciously clearing my throat when I started reading your comment. Then I started laughing, while still clearing my throat. Most painful giggle I've had in a long time.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 117 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (4 children)

Yeah they will. They'll threaten your lives with social programs all day long if they get the chance. Things like After School care, food programs, poverty assistance, medicare for all, housing placement...the horror. /s

Prenatal care, postnatal care, hospital stays, retirements… it’ll never stop!

HOW CAN THEY LIVE WITH THEMSELVES????

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

True, but they'll means test the hell out of them all, making them highly inefficient and thus ripe for GOP demagogues demanding they be scrapped entirely.

Still much better than the fascists and other demagogues looking for an excuse to defund everything that helps people who need help, of course, but not great.

That is the ultimate horror for the 1%

Imagine having to give back something to all those people you and your ancestors have exploited for your mountain of wealth.

The people in that article must be absolute freaks (derogatory). Who in the fuck protests at a Congressman’s district office over something that isn’t an actual policy issue? How is anyone passionate enough about the difference between Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan to make a whole sign and drive somewhere over it?

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 22 points 1 year ago

Assholes who are utterly miserable and wish everyone else were as miserable as they are.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 10 points 1 year ago

People who think idolizing a politician is a replacement for a personality.

Making that sign must have taken all night

I don't know anything about this guy, but good for him for sticking to his guns and not making an obviously awful choice.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

On one hand, I'm inclined to agree with you, but on the other hand, being a Republican in 2023 to begin with shows he makes obviously awful choices.

Credit where credit is due, I guess, but only a tiny bit.

Considering the MAGA death threats, the witness protection program would be a better relocation choice, anyway. /$ Remember when Salman Rushdie was threatened for his book? And how bizarre it was that a religion would issue an edict of death? And here we are.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Congressman Ken Buck, a Republican from Weld County, says his office in Windsor will soon be forced to move after receiving an eviction notice.

Buck, a longtime resident of Weld County, received an eviction notice from his Water Valley office space.

More than a dozen people held signs outside of the office, located next to the Pelican Lakes Golf Course, calling on Buck to vote for Jordan.

Those with The Water Valley Company did not immediately respond to requests for interview on the accusations made by Buck's office.

"Getting evicted from an office and getting death threats all because of a vote you make, if that is the kind of response that followers of Jim Jordan get, I don't think he would be good in that position."

After the protest completed it was announced Jim Jordan would no longer seek the speaker position, leaving Republicans once again searching for their next leader.
