If they don't call, it's not important

[–] roy_mustang76@lemmy.sdf.org 36 points 1 year ago (3 children)

And there's a solid 50% chance that I will not answer that call

[–] kubica@kbin.social 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What the hell do they expect calling at... any hour of the day?

[–] basidialtiger@beehaw.org 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If it's important, they'll leave a message.

[–] Nemo@midwest.social 6 points 1 year ago

and if it's really important, they'll text

Just like there's a 50% chance I'll plug in a USB-A cable correctly on the first try...... 50% chance in theory but more like 0% in practice.

I think you mean usb-b. Usb-a is the weird looking port that printers use.

If they don't leave a voicemail, it's not that important

People who leave voicemails demand to be ignored. No way it's important enough for me to have to listen to your audio recording when a text would've been fine.

Voicemails get delivered at text now though, so the result is pretty much the same except you can't type a reply to a VM-to-text. So I like those better because I can read what they said and don't have to ever type anything back.

But not in a bad way!

Just out of sight out of mind.

Or my personal bane, "forgot to hit send."

I have started;

  • Saving funny/relatable images like this when I come across them.
  • Texting them one a day to, basically the one person I'm still in regular contact with.

It fulfills the role of keeping in touch (like small talk does for regular people), without so far causing any of the anxiety, procrastination, out of sight out of mind, ghosting problems that typically plague my relationships. YMMV, naturally.

My best friend can disappear for >2 weeks.

[–] girltwink@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My ex 😑 she disappears for days at a time and i finally accept that it's over, and then suddenly she wants me to come spend the night. And i do because I'm the dumb bitch who still loves her. It's exhausting.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

oh no

That's really rough. I'm sure you know this, but you'll never stop loving her if you keep going back.

Relatable. I tend to forget about and ghost people. Calling me is a much better source of contact.
