I don’t really understand how these people don’t see themselves and the immigrant as both part of the victims instead of part of the victimizers. Like… it’s not like the immigrant isn’t also getting screwed. He’s having to do exactly what you did, but cheaper. Would you consider that getting a good deal? Of course not. Both of you are getting fucked by your boss.

You should team up and do something about it.

The bosses are fighting really hard to make it almost impossible to create class consciousness, so instead it turns to tribalism, us vs them, because it's easy to discriminate against skin colour or nationality

[–] whereisk@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

But you see, the profit motive of business is sacred, that's why it doesn't occur to them to ask. It's blasphemy. Of course they'll minimise their wage bill. How else will they compete with other businesses? Etc. The idea that executives should be prosecuted for hiring undocumented workers below market value doesn't occur to them - they think it's easier to stop humans from crossing the border.

[–] electrogamerman@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It should be like that, but the Bosses are telling those people that immigrants are taking their jobs and Bosses are telling the immigrants that those people dont want them in the country. And stupid immigrants and stupid those people are just fighting each other, while the Bosses are enjoying their home in Hawaii.

Have a GOP family member.

I said, "immigrants pick our food. Do you want that job?"

His response? (55 year old fat man) "I picked fruit when I was in my 20s!"

I said two things, 1 then go pick fruit now! 2 ever drive by the fields (very rural area)

His response? 1 nah I'm too fat and lazy 2 well yeah but only because they won't hire whites 🤣🤣🤣

Trumps significant decrease in work visas (California) did indeed have non immigrants step in...... And quit within a few weeks. The jobs are too hard, demanding and difficult.

Our economy functions and always will function simply because we do need immigrants.

PS he's gotten so much better at not being a GOP these last 3 years!

I think the immigrant isn't a victim when they leave their country with the intent of being hired for a low wage, so they can send money to their families even if they live like shit in their new country. They'll be living by themselves in the developed country, so they don't need a salary to take care of a whole family, unlike the natives. They know what they are doing, they know what's up, it's all part of the plan.

Obviously, the company is the worst aggressor in this scenario, but the immigrant is no saint.

[–] badaboomxx@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I do not agree, but I understand the point you are making. The fact that many people who migrate is lack of opportunities, and like many people, if they are not getting that in their current job they are going to fmlook for new opportunities in other jobs.

The point of the image is that the only ones getting a better deal are the owners, the migrants are just getting a little better deal but not as much as the people who the owner fired.

[–] pazukaza@lemmy.ml -4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeha, that's why I said the worst aggressors are the companies, but this doesn't mean that immigrants are free of guilt.

First, they are immigrating illegally, which isn't right. There's a lot of honest immigrants patiently waiting to be accepted, and these guys just say "fuck it" and break all the rules.

Second, they know they'll accept a low paying job as soon as they get their first offer. The money they are getting is a lot of money back home. It isn't a bad deal for them. After a few years they can go back home and be wealthy, even medium-high class. So it's not like they are in a bad deal.

Just because there is a big aggressor, doesn't mean there is a single aggressor.

[–] badaboomxx@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That is where you are wrong. Not every migrant is illegally in the US. Many have work permits, nss and even back accounts. And yet, owners still find a way to abuse those.

[–] pazukaza@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In that scenario, the only aggressor is the business owner then. Legal immigrants should be paid the same as native workers.

I thought the post was talking about illegal immigration.

[–] badaboomxx@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

The image is only saying immigrants not illegal immigrants only.

But yeah, I mean, I am working legally, my last job they didn't want to pay me overtime, so I stop doing it, they they wanted to reduce my hours. I found some other work and I am doing twice the money that I made in the other job.

My opinion is that to see a real change, instead of blaming the illegals, first thing to do is to go after the owners who hire illegals, and I assure you that there won't be illegal immigration

[–] bappity@lemmy.world 37 points 1 year ago

a lot of people angry at immigrants do it just for the sake of being racist

[–] Holyginz@lemmy.world 36 points 1 year ago

The people they are referencing would never actually understand what they are saying. Which Is just sad.

[–] geoken@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is a useless position.

Of course the primary issue is greed, but the job of policy makers is to physically limit the manifestations of that greed. If they could legally do it, corporations would buy and use slaves.

If the government is allowing corporations to use immigration to suppress wages - then the fault lies with the government.

[–] clutchmatic@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

All true but note that "government" here refers to the lawmakers, not the president and the executive branch. Media positions "government" as the president only when all these policies are enacted by lawmakers.

[–] yoz@aussie.zone 9 points 1 year ago

As a business owner , I hate when people start to use common sense.

[–] CIWS-30@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

This is true, but as long as those capitalists keep doing this, and doing this busts unions and brings in workers who can't vote and can easily be deported for not working hard enough (re: be exploited) it's not insane to oppose immigration to certain sectors of work.

It's similar to opposing outsourcing. It doesn't mean you're racist, it means you know what it'll do to depower labor organization movements. People forget that the reasons Immigrants aren't "taking ur jobs" now is because they already took those jobs in the past, killing many unions along the way.

Many dirty jobs that non-union immigrants are doing now used to be done by unionized white working class types previously. I watched a documentary about meat plant workers on strike for instance (I think that union worked for Hormel) who were striking for healthcare. What happened? They all got fired and replaced by imported Mexican workers.

The Union? Easy to guess what happened.

[–] LeCamp@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Its still makes me crazy to see people that don’t realize this. UNIONIZE

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Many jobs are moved to countries that pay pennies for wages and have horrible labor regulations. Some also with slave labor. It really has nothing to do with immigrants.

[–] Blamemeta@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Then why are we still importing cheap labor?
