Chronicle the life and tale of the fediverse (+ matrix)

Largely a sublemmy about capturing drama, from fediverse spanning drama to just lemmy drama.

Includes lore like how a instance got it's name, how an instance got defederated, how an admin got doxxed, fedihistory etc

(New) This sub's intentions is to an archive/newspaper, as in preferably don't get into fights with each other or the ppl featured in the drama

Can't blame them. The stuff that makes it to their /All feed is pretty hateful and off-putting.

Thank you admins. This is an important step towards a viable fediverse.

Are the tankies in the room with us now?

Not anymore.
Too bad kbin doesn't defederates from the extremist instances.

[–] yukichigai@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Pretty sure kbin defeds from some of the worst, like exploding heads (though they've since imploded) and rammy.

Also you can always block the entire domain on kbin so you don't have to deal with those jagoffs at least. Just go to kbin.social/d/<instancedomain.whatever> and you can block all content coming from that domain/instance.

[–] DarkThoughts@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's not defederated from exploding-heads, hexbear, lemmygrad & others. It doesn't even ban extremistic magazines & users either.

And no, you cannot block an entire domain on kbin. Blocking an instance through the interface like this does nothing. The posts & comments from those places will still show up on your feed. You have to block each and every single magazine / community individually. I tried this with the furry instance and lemmy.ml already.

Oh damn, that explains why 99.999% of advertising bots and spam are coming from kbin. Imagine not defederating from exploding-heads wtf

Are they at least defederated from that one raging pedo instance?

The reason is that moderator actions don't federate over from kbin. It's being worked on.

[–] DarkThoughts@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Not just from kbin but also to kbin. I think it's a general issue with the protocol, same goes for edits I believe. I've seen several posts that allegedly have been removed by moderators on Lemmy, which were still visible on kbin. Same for people who said they allegedly edited their comments (specifically URLs), but they were still the same for me on kbin.

No idea since I have no idea which one you're talking about.
Kbin was quick to defederate from nsfwlemmy over the bs pedo claims, if that's what you mean, but I think that has been reversed already. But 18+ content in general seems to be not really fed into the feeds algorithm, as I almost never see anything.

[–] LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Naw, this wasn't just a NSFW one. I was unfortunate enough to see posts and comments from it browsing all when I first joined back in June.

Burrgit? Burgerrit? Something like that. Afaik, most instances defederated them pretty quickly.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago

The only one feddit.uk is defederated from lmao

[–] CarlsIII@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just a warning, blocking instances on kbin leads to an issue where you can’t see any of the comments on your own threads, and your own threads don’t show up in your own feed.

[–] yukichigai@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oof. Damn. Is there a fix for it in the pipeline? Maybe in the new upgrade ernest is rolling out Soon(TM)?

I'm not personally affected since I've never felt the need to block an entire domain (yet?), but honestly it's one of kbin's better features. Be a shame for it to not work fully.

[–] CarlsIII@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

If I understand correctly (and I probably don’t,) there is a fix but it hasn’t been implemented yet.

I couldn't fucking care less. If I want to see their edgelord circle jerk bullshit I'll create an account on the instance. No one is being silenced. They can spew their bullshit to their hearts content and no one is being prevented from listening who wants to. The people who are pissing and moaning are just whining because they can't force everyone to listen anymore like they could on Reddit and that isn't any fun.

Lemmy is federated. No one can stop anyone from listening to what they want to listen to and no one can force you to listen to intentionally annoying edgelords if you don't want to.

Now quit your fucking and get on with your lives.

[–] Jaysyn@kbin.social 18 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I had already blocked that instance, but good.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

As a sh.itjust.works user I'm surprised this wasn't already the case

[–] synae@lemmy.sdf.org -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

as a lemmy.sdf.org user, lol at letting your admins tell you what you can't see

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 year ago

I'm not letting anyone do anything. If I had a problem with it I'd have spent my time elsewhere. When I registered it was the only defederated instance and that was fine by me.

Looks like democratic socialism beats spicy socialism again.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

If Lemmy.world didn't have trending memes calling the Lemmygrad dudes literal Nazis while the poster spews bullshit all over the comments I'd agree.

Not tankies. Not red fascists. Not walking proof of horseshoe theory. Dude's calling them national socialists and dumbasses are upvoting him for it.

But, then again, my instance is defederated from them already so maybe I'm not seeing them talk about the glory of the Aryan race and complaining about the degenerate West letting gay people stay alive.

Anyone here seen a Lemmygrad peep do that?

[–] Opasad@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Fascists gonna fasc.

[–] centof@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I actually don't mind hexbears and lemmygrad.ml. It is a good reminder to have that just like the world, the internet is filled with shitty people/beliefs. Makes it easier to take the things you see with a grain of salt. I don't want an echo chamber.

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

The only problem I have with them is that they sound like MAGA idiots with their "liberal" bullshit. I get irrationally irritated every time I see one of those posts. I'm still not entirely convinced that they're not just MAGA hats pretending to be communists to make actual communists look bad.

[–] altima_neo@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah, makes Lemmy feel more like 4chan

[–] Da_Boom@iusearchlinux.fyi 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't want an echo chamber, but sometimes shit can be so draining to understand stuff I need a break. That's when I do want one, for a short amount of time to relieve myself of the mental and emotional pressure. Once I'm sorted, then I can deal with it again.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago

That's the nice thing about the fediverse, you can choose to have one

[–] Limitless_screaming@kbin.social -1 points 1 year ago

The worst I've seen is some mild trolling, and some different opinions. It feels like lemmy.world is just fragile. Glad I choose kbin.social, let's me decide what I want to see for myself.
