A Klingon is the only counsellor with the relevant experience to treat O'Brien

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago

Klingon runs out crying like a little girl.

"I came to counsel him and instead he counselled me! ..... puts his hands to his face mwahhhhhhh"

Yes, he practices CBT: Combat & Battle Therapy

[–] negativenull@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Does CBT cure PTSD, or does it cause PTSD?

[–] Taako_Tuesday@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

At least its not the other kind of CBT

[–] BoxOfFeet@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I tried rubbing CBT oil on my feet to help with my anxiety. I couldn't walk right and was peeing blood for weeks.

DS9 would be at 699.94% efficiency with this crew!

[–] AllonzeeLV@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah, but they'd have to deal with a 3,556.23% increase in irish drinking songs.

I hear he's partial to an old Earth ditty called "Louie Louie"

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 3 points 1 year ago

How is that a problem?

[–] hperrin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Until someone needed to speak to the counselor.

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You don't speak to the councilor

you fight him

It sounds like it wouldn't be very effective, but he manages to make it quite therapeutic

"We will do glorious battle with your issues and insecurities! Today is a good day to cry!"

I really want this line in Lower Decks. It would fit right in.

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Imagine if we used EMH tech to put him on every ship- THAT would improve the fleet unquestionably.

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That would achieve the unheard-of 100% fleetwide efficiency. Not even the Q Continuum could stop Starfleet

"To boldy go where no Holo-O'brien has gone before."

[–] ensignrick@startrek.website 8 points 1 year ago

That's it, I want a klingon counselor on lower decks.

Honor to your union

I wish there was a series with Colm as Captain O'Brien! But he was in Star Trek from the TNG pilot up to the DS9 finale, I imagine he was sick of it once that finished up.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

In order for O'Brien to become a Captain he would have had to become a commissioned officer instead of an enlistedman, and you just know he'd never do that.

[–] breckenedge@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Doesn’t have to be Federation. He could be a captain of his own ship.

[–] Zorque@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

It'd mean having to dress up on those awful formal uniforms.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Who's the transporter chief?

[–] Snoopey@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Surely Garak should be included as the ship's tailor

I don’t know if he can trust Bashir, he lost William B Travis.

[–] teft@startrek.website -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'd take the EMH over Bashir any day of the week.

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I want an EMH!

We have an EMH at home!

EMH at home

[–] Zorque@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

They should have stuck with the Bashir model, genetic engineering or no.
