Hello fellow Cyanide and Happiness fans!

About this community and how I post the comics… Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips. Of course these days you can read your favorite comics online instead of a newspaper, but I love the nostalgia of reading the daily comics. Anyway, one of my favorite current comics is Cyanide and Happiness and I will be posting the daily release from their website (https://explosm.net/) and a an extra or two randoms.

Cyanide & Happiness (C&H) is a webcomic created by Rob DenBleyker, Kris Wilson, Dave McElfatrick and Matt Melvin. The comic has been running since 2005 and is published on the website explosm.net along with animated shorts in the same style. Matt Melvin left C&H in 2014, and several other people have contributed to the comic and to the animated shorts… Read more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyanide_%26_Happiness

Hope you enjoy and feel free to contribute to the community with art, media, cool stuff about the authors, tattoos, toys and anything else, as long it’s Cyanide and Happiness related!

Anyone who calls it a "drill machine" should not be allowed to use power tools

[–] ImplyingImplications@lemmy.ca 40 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What if I refer to myself as a drill machine?

[–] xantoxis@lemmy.world 43 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That's allowed, but you better prove it

Idiot, the anus is just the opening of the alimentary canal

[–] abcd@feddit.de 5 points 1 year ago

If it’s not on strava, it never happened!

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

This is not a drill! I repeat, this is not a drill!

[–] pimento64@sopuli.xyz 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My wood shop teacher would insist it was "drill driver" and would bust your grade down if you only called it a drill.

[–] Flexaris@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wouldn't it be a drill bit driver?

[–] JonEFive@midwest.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Isn't the drill part of the bit?

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The bit is the tip of the drill and the shank is the other end.

[–] TheGreenGolem@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Just the tip

[–] KevonLooney@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

Can I borrow your car machine?

[–] President_Pyrus@feddit.dk 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In denmark we call it a "boremaskine", literally "drilling machine"...

[–] M137@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Same in Sweden; "borrmaskin"

Though it's still fine to say just "borr" (drill) for it, like "kan du sträcka mig borren?" (Can you hand me the drill?)

[–] President_Pyrus@feddit.dk 7 points 1 year ago

In Danish, "bor" only refers the drill bit. If you asked someone "kan du række mig boret" you would be handed the drill bit, or possibly be pointed towards the table (bord/bordet, with silent d).

[–] yetAnotherUser@feddit.de 4 points 1 year ago

Same in German: "Bohrmaschine".

Although the shorthand version is "Bohrer", not "Bohr".

[–] SadSadSatellite@sh.itjust.works 65 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Openly admitting to being pedantic. That said, here we go: it's a DRIVER, the end is the CHUCK, which holds the SHANK of the BIT, which can be a DRILL.

I understand it's a setup to the punchline, and nobody actually gives a shit.

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 45 points 1 year ago (3 children)

A drill and a driver are separate tools. You can fit driver bits in a drill's chuck, but it's not its intended purpose. A driver is meant specifically to drive screws, and it's better at the job than a drill.

[–] funnystuff97@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago (1 children)

don't mind me, just watching the above comic unfold in real time

[–] idiomaddict@feddit.de 20 points 1 year ago

Are you guys doing a driver bit?

[–] Aux@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Most tools today are drill driver combo devices, they do both jobs well.

[–] SadSadSatellite@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

While this is only semantics and based on nothing more than my preference, I would argue that a drill is a type of driver. If you call it a drill driver, I might get upset though.

[–] ogler@lemmynsfw.com 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i disagree with that, you can use a handheld drill to drive screws but that's not what it's for, it's for making holes in shit with drill bits. you can also buy little sanding discs for your handheld drill but nobody's calling it a drill sander

[–] ogler@lemmynsfw.com 10 points 1 year ago

damn, got me commenting with the porn account

I'm imagining two mustached middle aged dudes in plaid shirts and denim having this talk in front of Home Depot

[–] BarrelAgedBoredom@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

This is king of the hill level commentary itellyouhwat

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

This is the kind of topic the local ham radio group discussed quite frequently.

[–] Jesse@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

I appreciate you, and thank you.

[–] affiliate@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

this was extremely satisfying to read

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

This is what I came here for.

[–] KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They wrote this entire fucking thing for the joke at the end.

[–] RavindraNemandi@ttrpg.network 11 points 1 year ago

I mean, isn't that how most jokes work?

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

No! It's a drill bit bit!

Grandpa called it a “drill motor”
