Don't do that! Milk is conductive. This could make you a serial killer!

[–] mifan@feddit.dk 54 points 1 year ago

Or you would have a firewire πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ

[–] renormalizer@feddit.de 83 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Getting the order right is not an exact science. It's more of an UART.

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 22 points 1 year ago

I can't think of a pun good enough to respond with, good job

[–] 0x2a@feddit.ch 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

You people need to stop bit with the puns.

[–] ArbiterXero@lemmy.world 68 points 1 year ago (7 children)

I’m showing my age here, but that’s likely dvi, and not serial.

9pin is much smaller and 25pin is significantly larger.

But despite my pedantic statement, the joke still stands. Well played.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 38 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh christ, DVI is old now.

[–] Ajen@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We're pretty much at the point where 2.5" SSDs are old...

[–] rmuk@feddit.uk 8 points 1 year ago

Does that mean my stash of IBM MicroDrives are finally going to be worth something?

[–] Rhaedas@kbin.social 26 points 1 year ago

Same here, although I thought VGA. Dealt with too many parallel cables in the past and that didn't look wide enough.

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 21 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Shhhh it's just a different flavor of cereal

[–] ArbiterXero@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Mmmmmm fruity loops of wire

DVI-D uses TMDS, which is a serial protocol. So if you want to be really pedantic you could call it a serial port even though it's not RS232.

DVI-A also transmits metadata over a serial connection, but the video signal is parallel analog.

[–] ArbiterXero@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Fair! Neat fact!

Looks a heck of a lot like the RS-485 serial cable I've got on my desk right now. Scale is hard to tell, not sure how big that bowl is.

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yeah it's clearly a D-Sub connector, I'll allow the meme, the joke's funny.

Fun fact: That's not real milk. It's just Elmer's glue, they use it to stage the perfect shot.

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Food marketing is fascinating

[–] rmuk@feddit.uk 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You ever seen the microwaved tampon trick?

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] rmuk@feddit.uk 19 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I may have oversold it, to be honest, which is fair given what we're talking about.

Soak a tampon in water and microwave it for a few seconds. It'll give off loads of whispy steam for a long time. Then, just pop it behind that lovely roast chicken (cooked yesterday) or warming bowl of macaroni soup (ice cold) to make it look piping hot for the photo shoot.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It really should go without saying, but please only do this with an unused tampon.

"Oh, that steak looks well done and extra-rare!"

I remember being in like 4th grade and the teacher showing us a video about the tricks they use in advertising, how they carefully craft cheeseburgers, use spray deodorant on beverage glasses to make them look frosty. The thing that stuck in my mind was fake ice cream. Because ice cream would melt under the lights they actually use a substance similar to cookie dough, like shortening, flour, sugar etc. which is completely edible so you can film actors eating it, and I remember thinking "that doesn't sound half bad, actually."

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 7 points 1 year ago

that's not oversold lol, thats interesting and cool (I think?)

[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

Liking photography as much as I do, I really should look into all these tricks, huh

[–] dawatt@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

I think it is extremely controverserial.

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 8 points 1 year ago

...I should've thought of that

The milk, the serial needs something to plug in

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

True, but what if there isn't enough milk to plug into? Or what if you have too much milk?

[–] drew_belloc@programming.dev 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It will never be too much milk

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This will be the result my friend:

Your house will overflow with milk!

[–] drew_belloc@programming.dev 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 8 points 1 year ago

You seem to really like milk

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Depends. Does the milk come from universal serial boobs?

[–] GrammatonCleric@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago (2 children)
[–] jayknight@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 year ago

I've upgraded all of my bowls to Universal Serial Bowls (the C connector is specifically for cereal).

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 7 points 1 year ago

It's up to you for your choice of connector, though it would be drier than usual

[–] DarkenLM@artemis.camp 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Put them in whatever order you like.

The bowl goes last.

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

...or does it?

Veritasium music starts playing

[–] infinitevalence 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I generally put the Serial in first, as its very reliable.

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 7 points 1 year ago

Good choice! I do the same

[–] sundrei@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 1 year ago

RS-23ewwwww

[–] LastYearsPumpkin@feddit.ch 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 6 points 1 year ago

Then it's a snack (I think?)

[–] eee@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

Gotta take a waterfall approach

[–] troyunrau@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What's the bitrate of the milk?
