Summary

Elon Musk called for the firing of Wall Street Journal reporter Katherine Long after she exposed racist tweets from Marko Elez, a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employee who later resigned.

Long’s report revealed Elez had posted remarks promoting racism and eugenics.

“Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool,” Elez posted in July, according to the Journal’s review of archived posts.

Musk, who claims to support free speech, labeled Long “disgusting and cruel” and demanded that she should be fired.

Critics noted the hypocrisy of Musk advocating for a journalist’s removal over accurate reporting on a public official’s misconduct.

Free speech for Musk means Musk gets to decide what people are allowed to say.

Hopefully the outcome of the French investigation will be an international arrest warrant.

eh, can see how those are working great for the powerful people (examples: putin, bibi, the libya guy)

[–] SilentKettle@lemmy.wtf 6 points 14 hours ago

I'm not talking about an ICC warrant against a sitting president.

He is really, REALLY becoming fucking absolutely unhinged VERY fast. He is trying to suppress any form of overlook VERY fast and very aggressively. He hasn't acted like this before. While it is expected, he needs to be told that he can go to hell.

What I fear is that he won't be asking for people to be fired, he will be soon asking for arrests and I am very, VERY confident he will brazenly calling for hits on people very openly.

always has been, he is the son of a slaver in apartheid SA and iirc grandson of a nazi. of course he is racist too.

now that he is the literal dictator of the biggest empire in the world, i don't think he needs to worry about softening it anymore. its logical that fascism will serve him judging from the... gestures hes been making. or the casual fascist shit hes been saying for years at this point.

i think your hunch is correct though. he didnt bother climbing onto that throne not to use it. the silver lining is that he already showed himself incompetent.

What a fucking snowflake.

[–] b3an@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Funny, I thought HE was disgusting and cruel, but the rest of us can’t bully people using money and illegal threats.

My Chrystal ball says that Elon keeps realizing agenda 2025 until the resistance within their own ranks becomes unbearable. While Elon makes news Trump makes legislation to fuck over whoever he can. Only then, goat Elon gets scaped by savior Donald to appease Maga and everything is in shambles.

Musk is officially part of the government now, so this literally is an attack on free speech

Not that any conservative cares.

[–] xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 105 points 1 day ago (5 children)

they keep saying he’s part of the government, but congress never vetted and confirmed him… he doesn’t have security clearance….

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 104 points 1 day ago (18 children)

They. Do not care. About the law.

Why does this keep needing to be said?

[–] Ketchup@reddthat.com 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe it’s the way we keep saying it. Have we tried alternate punctuation such as: They. Do. Not. Care. About. The. Law.

Maybe this helps

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Nothing helps. I've had someone argue with me vociferously that U.S. elections still count and then finally said they aren't even in the U.S. so this doesn't affect them so they aren't worried about it.

zero chance that dude resigned because of those tweets..

He realized how far over his head he was, and rather than admitting that to his overlord musk, he takes this lucky break, whines about harassment, and resigned.
