Rules

  1. Be nice to each other. Being aggressive or inflammatory towards other users will get you banned. Name calling or obvious trolling falls under that. Hate cars, hate the system, but not people. While some drivers definitely deserve some hate, most of them didn't choose car-centric life out of free will.

  2. No bigotry or hate. Racism, transphobia, misogyny, ableism, homophobia, chauvinism, fat-shaming, body-shaming, stigmatization of people experiencing homeless or substance users, etc. are not tolerated. Don't use slurs. You can laugh at someone's fragile masculinity without associating it with their body. The correlation between car-culture and body weight is not an excuse for fat-shaming.

  3. Stay on-topic. Submissions should be on-topic to the externalities of car culture in urban development and communities globally. Posting about alternatives to cars and car culture is fine. Don't post literal car fucking.

  4. No traffic violence. Do not post depictions of traffic violence. NSFW or NSFL posts are not allowed. Gawking at crashes is not allowed. Be respectful to people who are a victim of traffic violence or otherwise traumatized by it. News articles about crashes and statistics about traffic violence are allowed. Glorifying traffic violence will get you banned.

  5. No reposts. Before sharing, check if your post isn't a repost. Reposts that add something new are fine. Reposts that are sharing content from somewhere else are fine too.

  6. No misinformation. Masks and vaccines save lives during a pandemic, climate change is real and anthropogenic - and denial of these and other established facts will get you banned. False or highly speculative titles will get your post deleted.

  7. No harassment. Posts that (may) cause harassment, dogpiling or brigading, intentionally or not, will be removed. Please do not post screenshots containing uncensored usernames. Actual harassment, dogpiling or brigading is a bannable offence.

Please report posts and comments that violate our rules.

I take the bus about 8 times a week to go see family and the bus i go on goes through some villages and towns, with many cars being impatient and taking the piss with a double decker bus. These bus drivers are pretty calm and just take it because they know if they didn't, they'd be fired.

So this is where I come in. They don't know I'm doing it and the bus is fairly empty most of the time.

Oh you parked in the bus stop to do a delivery? πŸ–• beeping at the bus because you want to get past? πŸ–•cutting the bus lane? πŸ–• come down the road where cars are blocking your side of the road and drive straight up to a bus with no where to go? You best know your gonna get the πŸ–•

It's not much and some don't see them but the ones who do, know they are dicks because I'm showing them the πŸ–•to make them aware of their dickish behaviour.

I'm a tiny woman who isn't starting road rage, so what I do is just make the other person concerned. I've done this as a pedestrian and a driver.

It's really easy, as a pedestrian walking past, pause slightly and drop your eyes to their front grill, tilt your head slightly and grimace. If in the car, point and sit up in your seat like you're trying to get a better view of their car and do the same face. Look alarmed even.

I've seen multiple drivers pull over to check out their cars. At the very least it makes them take time out of their day for no reason - and inconveniencing dickheads is always fun - but given we're in Australia, their imagination can take them to all kinds of places. What did she see? Is it still there? Is it in my car now?????

All day confusion. Lying in bed, rattled, mind racing... "WHAT DID SHE SEE!?" lol good times.

This is hilarious lmao

First thing that came to my mind were shows where the mc sees something so horrible their face goes all detailed to show the extent of the disgust, like this lol:

Head of a character drawn in an anime style with a grimaced facial expression

Exactly. I find showing confusion and concern also takes any aggression out of the moment that you'd otherwise escalate by reacting with anger. They go from being angry/douchey/smug to '... What? What's wrong with my car... What???' and you just go on your merry way.

@boogetyboo
Another version of this, which I saw in a video (anyone got a link?), is to mimic stepping over a large obstruction in the crosswalk. Drivers will get out to see what's in the road.

Hahah yes I've seen this one! I think that's a fun prank. My version is definitely, while subtle, more malicious and reserved exclusively for arseholes

At this point, just place your bag with the well-known, huge, neon laser space pony "FUCK CARS" poster visibly in a window and be done with it.

Can I buy stickers I can put on a bus?

[–] Vode_An@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You’ll make them regret leaning out the window and shouting β€œBus Wankers”.

Ha ha ha huge fan of the show. I have taken the bus enough time to be called one, it happens lol

Just FYI, I saw a post reporting that a thumbs down angered drivers more than being flipped off. Perhaps it’s time for an experiment!

[–] Kofu@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

I will see what I can do, but I can't promise I won't slip them a πŸ–•out of habit.

[–] autumn@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

i gotta start doing this when i’m on my bike with shitty drivers.

So many tells that you're not in the US...

[–] Kofu@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah definitely wouldn't do it there, I'd probably get chased down, dragged out of the bus and shot in the street like a commie bastard or do they like commies now, I don't know anymore.
