Those people are awfully close to boiling earth.
The only real danger with these types of eruptions are the gases. Ask long as you are not standing downwind it's pretty safe.
Looks like that's midway between the airport and Reykjavik. Imagine arriving in Iceland and the first thing you see is this!
I vaguely remember that was a big deal some ten years or so ago with planes not flying for days. Am I imagining that?
