Because Trump keeps calling it a landslide and the media keeps repeating the lie.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 49 points 1 day ago

Because he got all seven swing states? Can we stop the denial part and move on to anger already?

[–] sndmn@lemmy.ca 98 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Everybody lost this election. Some folks just don't realize it yet.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, everybody but a few hundred billionaires.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (3 children)

How does them getting a shittier world and more of something they have no use for help them?

The billionaires absolutely, completely lost right along with the rest of us.

[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 7 points 16 hours ago

They are living in a different reality from us, where negative consequences do not exist. All they have is their precious "growth".

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

The more desperate everyone is, the more willing they are to be enslaved.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

They're still winning until more people are inspired by Luigi.

[–] WaxiestSteam69@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

I believe all but the most hardcore MAGA believe that at some level. No one will admit it. One of my favorite childhood stories was "The Emperor's New Clothes". I never thought I'd live to see it happen in real life.

Maybe it's the fact he is a convicted felon? The fact he was even allowed to run is a massive loss already regardless of the outcome. As far as I am concerned anything short of a massive landslide against him counts as a massive loss.

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago (3 children)

If being a felon or a convicted Criminal makes it impossible for you to run for office. They will look to convict everyone they don't like of something just so they can be powerless.

However Trump's massive unrepentant criminal nature should have been played upon more by the media throughout the whole process asking him why he's even bothering to run. Instead of breathlessly giving him coverage.

Very true. Source: Am from a dictatorship; they really like to do this.

Like they already do with voting.

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Mainstream media is far right. Trump sued a newspaper for reporting he was doing a tiny bit behind in polls.

[–] WaxiestSteam69@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

A minimal popular vote win gave him multiple wins at so many levels it's sickening. And how the media pretends like he's not who he is amplifies the sense it was a huge victory.

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 75 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Because of the right wing media echo chamber in which we live. That NYT flirts and dabbles in.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Flirts? This is the newspaper that gave W his war on Iraq.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

I would go so far as to say they are fully complicit.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 56 points 1 day ago

Fuck off NYT.
They helped make his win a reality.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

Doesn't matter it you barely tip over the cliff.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 23 points 1 day ago

It's known as propaganda

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Because, unlike the last two times, he won the popular vote too!

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

One ignored point is that Democratic voter turnout was especially low in safe blue. Dejected Democratic voters still largely came out in swing states (still not enough). They didn't come out in states that didn't matter, Republican voters showed up even when it didn't.

If you make the election popular I'd wager Kamala wins. Make voter turnout mandatory, and she'd win by more.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Cultists acting culty, go figure.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

It wasn't low though, turnout was higher than 2016.

The problem was that 2020 was artifically inflated thanks to covid-related vote by mail policies that expired in 2024.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He's run more times that that. I think it was five times before 2016, or something like that.

[–] SaltySalamander@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago

He ran in 2000, but didn't run again until 2016.

[–] psmgx@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Because global oligarchs own the media and most websites

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 1 points 17 hours ago

Do you realize how many websites there are?

I think you meant most of the top 1,000 websites? But certainly not most websites

[–] WatDabney@fedia.io 8 points 1 day ago

I would say it doesn't feel that way because the bulk of the establishment media are fawning over him, and that they're fawning over him trying to curry favor, or at the very least trying to avoid getting TikToked.
