  1. SuperTuxKart

I really like this game because it's basically just FOSS Mario Kart. It has a lot of gamemodes, an (admittedly simple) kart stat system, many tracks and a lot of mods.

  1. OpenTTD

In OpenTTD, you transport cargo and people to different places. You can transport them using trains, buses, aeroplanes (airplanes if your American), boats and trams if you add a NewGRF (a mod). It is very addictive and it is quite easy to get into (except the signals).

  1. Pingus

It's FOSS Lemmings with penguins.

  1. Extreme Tux Racer

You play as Tux (or someone else) and slide yourself through terrain while you collect fish. It is fun, however I've found that it can get a bit repetitive. You can design levels, however it's a bit hard to do.

  1. SuperTux

It's 2D Mario with a penguin. BEST GAME EVER.

Shout out to Hedgewars - a GPL Worms kinda game. Played it a lot, especially during covid.

I still play OpenTTD every now and then.

But back in 1997, I had the shareware version of Transport Tycoon and I’d come home from school (6th grade) in summer, about 20 minutes walk in 30 degrees heat - my dad would have the dodgy air conditioner on, I’d splash some water on my face and get down to some railroads.

It was a very good time and as an adult I’ve never recaptured that feeling with OpenTTD. But I still install it first thing in every distro.

Battle for Wesnoth is fantastic too.

I play OpenRA & it's mods

  • Combined Arms
  • Shattered paradise
  • OpenHV (it's a heavilly modified version of OpenRA)

That looks really cool. I'm going to get that set up on the home network tonight.

@penguin202124 If you want to have a real fun with #OpenTTD, play some of #CityBuilder mods online. Fun as hell and also addictive 😀

Looks interesting! I'll try it.

In Super Tux 2(everything after 0.1.3) they changed the physics and made it incredibly floaty. Since then its never been the same.

I didn't use it before 0.1.3, so I don't know how it felt. More like Mario?

Yes, more accurate jumping, and you had more air control. You can still download 1.3., but its a bit hard to get it running nowadays.
