it's too embarrassing when some nsfw post shows uncensored in my feed and other people are seeing

Try RSS feeds, that way instead of some algorithm showing you nsfw posts at the worst possible time, you can do that safely from the comfort of your own terminal.

Alternatively, most sites allow you to blur NSFW posts.

yup, I have my lemmy set to blur nsfw posts and sort by "new". It solved most of the problem.

It doesn't help much when you have a boyfriend who keeps sending nsfw images all the time tho :v

I saw it on the smartphone of the person next to me on the train, and even though they were right next to me I could not make out what was on their screen until they turned it to demonstrate the screen protector.
