And they can provide for them on much, much, much smaller wealths. The non ultra rich are doing it.

[–] kittehx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 56 points 1 month ago

yeah how could anyone be expected to provide for their families with less than a billion dollars

[–] ReCursing@lemmings.world 47 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Their families are already provided for for the next five generations, at least, assuming they're all shite with money!

[–] bountygiver@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 month ago

and each of them buying their own house

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 35 points 1 month ago

With one billion dollars, I could comfortably provide for my family for ten thousand years. They'll be fine without them

[–] ef9357@lemmy.sdf.org 31 points 1 month ago

They’ve made billions not caring for anyone else’s family. Why should anyone care about theirs?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

They could provide for hundreds of millions of families.

Yo, I'm damn sure an anticapitalist, but the numbers are way off here. $1B split by 100M works out to $10 per family.

[–] nieminen@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

You forget they're usually multi-billionaires at this point. So could be anywhere from $10-30 per person.

Is there a specifically anti-billionaire Lemmy community one could join?

[–] MrRazamataz@lemmy.razbot.xyz 26 points 1 month ago

That is Lemmy!

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I feel like this is most lemmy communities? What pro-billionaire lemmy communities are there?

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

Actually a more interesting question than you think. When asked "should billionaires exist?" Almost everyone on Lemmy would respond "no," I suspect, but when asked "should we be working towards Communism?" I suspect the answer is far more mixed. Depending on your personal views, someone can say they oppose billionaires but not support actual practical methods of reducing them, just saying "increase taxes" as though they would ever let that happen.

Hexbear.net and Lemmygrad.ml are the largest explicitly Leftist instances on Lemmy.

What Leftist instance is larger?

[–] teslasaur@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Instances, not community. Lemmy.ml for example?

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 month ago

Lemmy.ml, the admins have told me before, isn't a Leftist instance. It is moderated and admin'd by Leftists, but it's ultimately more of a testbench flagship instance, not a main instance. Hexbear is more active than Lemmy.ml as far as I know anyways.

Also, my original comment was about instances, I misspoke when I said Community.

Antiwork and Workreform are good

[–] Visstix@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

They can provide for multiple generations when they die.

[–] onlooker@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 month ago

Nobody thinks of the billionaires, it's so unfair.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 7 points 1 month ago

This makes a nice companion to the meme that ends with the rich guy saying “fuck off” to something reasonable that involves helping other humans.

[–] Murple_27@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago

Piccolo would not be making this argument. If anybody would it would be Turles there.

[–] LavaPlanet@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Meh, they've got enough money for therapy.
