Summary

Donald Trump’s second inaugural fund is set to exceed $150 million, breaking the $107 million record from 2017.

Major companies like Amazon, Meta, Toyota, and Ford, along with executives like Sam Altman and Ken Griffin, are donating $1 million each.

Experts note the contributions aim to curry favor or avoid backlash from the incoming administration.

Some firms, despite earlier pledges to suspend political donations after the January 6 Capitol riot, are now participating.

Add this to the pile of reasons no one is outraged by a CEO being gunned down. We're tired of this bullshit and they're happy to buy power right in front of our eyes.

donations is a weird way to spell bribes.

[–] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 7 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Too small for bribes from these billionaires. It's a set token, a show of loyalty (at the last moment?) that they'd support him. I don't know how long this loyalty would last, but I'm sure that's the sum he asked from those who wanted to be close to him as a prove.

Kissing the ring

What is that money used for? I dont get it.

Giving money for a campaign makes sense. Its expensive. Covers expenses of your campaign workers, travel, advertisement, etc.

But after you've won, your cabinet is paid by tax dollars. What the heck is an inauguration donation for??

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 hours ago

It goes into Trump’s pocket.

Bribes for "please don't regulate us" "look the other way"

[–] thisnameisnottolong@aussie.zone 57 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Where I come from we call it bribery. And it's super illegal.

[–] 4grams@lemmy.world 22 points 19 hours ago

we made it legal a while ago, just used to pretend it was a bad thing. This one uses it as their strategy.

hope this country enjoys the dictatorship of dunces we just voted in.

How many meals can this buy for those wanting? Shelters for the homeless? Treatment for the sick? Oh wait, I forgot. The US is a third world country with a Gucci belt. The fascists do what the fascists do.

[–] WeeSheep@lemmy.world 20 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

A third world country with a Gucci belt. I've never heard that before and I love it.

[–] narr1@lemmy.ml 5 points 19 hours ago

You are very welcome to use it, my friend. I think it's very apt, but I can't remember where I read it for the first time though.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 16 hours ago

And it's probably not even real Gucci

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 15 hours ago

It's just so brazen at this point.

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 30 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Last time he tried to hide it. This time he is being completely open about the fact that he is for sale because he believes that he is untouchable.

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

He is. Pandoras box is now open. God Emperor Trump has 4 years to lay the groundwork to never leave and have his family rule absolute.

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

He is, until he isn't.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 16 hours ago

because he believes that he is untouchable.

And why wouldn't he?

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

Uh duh? I mean did anyone expect these assholes to not suck on his toadstool once he was elected?

[–] errer@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

Sadly presidents having corporations donate large sums of money to their inaugurations is not new, although Trump is definitely getting more.

U.S. President Joe Biden raised $61.8 million for his inauguration events, receiving large contributions from corporations, labor unions and wealthy individuals, according to a financial disclosure.

I guess it's expensive to hire people to show up.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 20 hours ago

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 6 points 21 hours ago

[–] skeezix@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago
