Is a flute that only plays one note technically a whistle? There must be a formal difference between the two, right? I just don't know what it is.
I think it's about lip placement. You put your lips on a whistle to form a seal, but with a flute you're just blowing across the opening
I'll take your word for it until someone else contradicts you or I stop being lazy and google it myself.
