One can not disable this feature or it is a bug. Normally it is only read once clicked.

Also, hiding read resets on every resume of scroll screen.

This sounds like mark post as read on scroll. You can disable the setting in Settings > Post feed > Mark post as read on scroll.

There was a thread a long long time ago back when the app was just created discussing the best way to handle "hide read". Essentially it boiled down to the behavior you see today, which is that the hide read state resets on refresh or if you close the app and reopen the app. I am open to revisit this behavior but I think it would require more discussion among users.

I, for myself, only find myself seldom wanting to show hidden posts. These are the times I want to revisit something.

The history isn't quite the same tbqh.
