Honorable Republican? I haven't heard a more oxymoronic statement since "military intelligence".
This exact thing happened after reconstruction to prevent black political power. And it worked.
So, more or less what they did in Wisconsin when Walker lost.
Turns out people are willing to abandon democracy before abandoning their belief system. I guess telling everyone else what to believe is more important than just leaving people the fuck alone. I know, it's a big ask to let people just live their life.
Democracy is a "belief system".
It's status as the default and unquestioned ideology is one of the reasons that it's vulnerable. The West has tolerated weak and incompetent democracies that bow to capital and are useless to help regular people. Why is everyone shocked when people conclude that it just doesn't work?
