The laws impose adult-length sentences for 13 of the “most serious” offences including “home and business break-ins”.

Not on the list: sexual assault and rape.

Presented without comment.

Children convicted of them are subject to the same length of sentence as adults. If convicted of murder they must be given a life sentence with a 20-year minimum non-parole period.

Imagine deliberately setting up a legislative environment where a 10-year-old kid could be sent to jail for 20 years.

Imagine no more, Merry Christmas kids!

Surely they will be a well adjusted member of society when they reach the end of that sentence

Fuck I hate that "mandate" bullshit. Yes, the LNP received a clear mandate in favour of this crap. The people of Queensland did vote for this.

But Labor voters absolutely did not vote for this. Labor MPs have a mandate to oppose it. They can't, ultimately, stop it going through, but they can at least put up a show of resistance, and their voters would have expected them to do that. It's a stain on them that they refused to do what they were elected to do.

Next step convict parents of the crimes their children do if it's found that the parents are negligent and allow their child's bad behaviour.
