It's funny watching basically every news outlet scrambling to try to and explain why Luigi has so much approval online, when the answer's rather simple:

US Health Insurers go out of their way to fuck over people in their time of need (the old Delay, Deny, Defend), and the executives get rich off of doing this - so the people hate them, and are more than willing to spit on their grave.

I wanna thank spez for fucking up reddit which kickstarted the beginning of a new era. The Fediverse Era.

You have been federated, do not resist.

To bad about lemmy.world doing everything they can to be reddit 2.0.

Oh well, hopefully this will drive people away from centralization

Switch to a different instance. It’s what I’m doing.

I am sitting here, in incredible pain from a combined sinus and ear infection, waiting for the antibiotics I need to be shipped to me in 3-5 business days because my insurance will only provide prescription coverage through Express Scripts and not a retail pharmacy.

This same insurance company has also denied to cover a surgery they have prior auth for, denied coverage for routine lab work that is expressly covered, waited months to review disputed charges and gotten them sent to collections, and forced me into a lower tier of coverage twice due to premium increases.

The kicker? I work in the health insurance industry. But I'm not an exec, just a support worker.

They can try to stop the online support all they want, but they should know that the active censorship will only cause people to go elsewhere. This issue is uniting everyone who watches the evening news, and they can't risk not covering the story because they are hoping to make an example of him.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 17 points 2 weeks ago

I fucking hate the push to use Express Scripts. You can't rely on receiving a medication that you need in a timely fashion using them.

I've been fortunate that I've been able to opt out of them, but insurance did push back, and I still get emails and mail from them as though I use them at all ever. I report it as spam every time, but it doesn't make a difference.

Damn, I hope your infection doesn't progress. Stay strong

You know, they just make clear to us how effective it was. Had they handled it like any other murder, there wouldn't be a support movement that practically calls for others to do the same.

?

I mean like, people would still celebrate the ceo dying regardless. I mean, once the news reported "Delay, Deny, Depose", that's it. People would be in support.

[–] De_Narm@lemmy.world 32 points 2 weeks ago

Sure, they would still celebrate and support it. But having a single news ticker item "CEO shot" simply does not make waves like non-stop coverage for multiple days does.

[–] candybrie@lemmy.world 24 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

There's roughly a murder a day in NYC. How many of them have you heard about? Do you know any of their names or professions?

[–] Bob_Robertson_IX@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

How many do the FBI get involved with? How much does the NYPD typically spend investigating each one? How many do they swear they will solve?

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 21 points 2 weeks ago

Only this one. Thanks for proving ops point lol

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 12 points 2 weeks ago

I want to know how much time and money they have spent tracking down this guy who killed one targeted individual versus how much money they spend on your average, non-CEO murder.

Oh, waiting for the punishment to start.

Authoritarians love to quash protest, and when they can’t they start bringing out the riot gear and batons. CEOs and corporations are by default dictators and dictatorships.

I wouldn’t be surprised at companies trolling social media and firing anyone that might suggest violence in association with their employer.

(They absolutely check social media. My partner and I work for Fortune 500 companies and long ago scrubbed any association with our employers from our accounts. Nonetheless, my other half works for an employee group to help co-workers with job issues, and it never ceases to amaze me how many stories I hear secondhand about people posting stupid stuff online that gets them fired. The company actively looks for this stuff. Probably preaching to the choir here on lemmy, but just in case anyone needs a reminder.)

Meanwhile the other day the manager of a grocery store was joking about how we need more people like him while scanning my ID for beer.

[–] Olgratin_Magmatoe@lemmy.world 37 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ain't gonna happen. They've given us a martyr. And a sexy one no less.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 12 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Unfortunately, it will work on a lot of people. A lot of people don't form their own opinions or discuss these things with friends and family. They just swallow the media narrative that they hear.

I'm hoping they're a minority.

I want something tangible to do. I'm just angry. America is so shit. It overshadows all of its freedoms with greed.

So last I heard the lawyer of Luigi said they are not taking outside money. That would make all fundraising a scam.

Have you got any links to something that says otherwise?

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 16 points 2 weeks ago

Man. I am so glad I joined the federation.

If Amazon or eBay takes down your merchandise, you can always sell it on https://xmrbazaar.com/ and somebody could make a legal defense fund on https://kuno.anne.media/
