Nearly all of those who requested assisted dying - around 96% - had a foreseeable natural death. The remaining 4% were granted euthanasia due to having a long-term chronic illness and where a natural death was not imminent.

Yeah, this is a classic example of a misleading statistic. Most people die of cancer, heart disease, or other age-related illnesses. Most people dying of those things probably don’t enjoy their last weeks. 1/20 going for euthanasia is not a huge number, even though it sounds HUGE when you first read it.

It also makes sense that a new law like this would cause an atypical surge of demand for a certain period of time.
