Fetterman: I'll Never Understand Progressives Who Won't Support Biden

Sen. John Fetterman has a message for the progressive wing of the Democratic Party: get in line behind President Joe Biden.

"Get behind Joe Biden's policies, or you're gonna get behind Trump's policies," said the Pennsylvania Democrat.

Fetterman made the remarks during a sit-down with reporters in his Senate office on Tuesday, answering questions with the help of a tablet that displays an instant transcript of reporters' spoken questions. He continues to recover from an auditory processing disorder caused by a stroke that happened during the 2022 campaign.

To illustrate his point, Fetterman hearkened back to his own support for Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign as the mayor of Braddock, even after he had supported Sen. Bernie Sanders during the primary.

"In 2016, you know, I was a surrogate for Senator Clinton. And it's just like, you have a choice," said Fetterman. "And if you don't get behind Senator Clinton, you know, you are voting for Trump. And that's exactly what happened in Pennsylvania, and it's devastating."

If I were Biden I would simply be a better president

Somehow this is the second best person in the Senate.

The word "progressive" in the US is like the word "middle class" - it hardly means anything.

[–] D61@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago

Remember folks, Progress, just means "marginally better". the-more-you-know

[–] ElGosso@hexbear.net 57 points 1 year ago

And I'll never understand how progressives could vote to break a strike, John, but that's who you've thrown your hat in with shrug-outta-hecks

The H A R M R E D U C T I O N brainworms are already wiggling around here, too.

that's okay John, I don't see how a progressive can support Israel like you do so we can call it even.

I don't live in the US

The problem is unlike Hillary, we've seen the results of Biden's policies; he crushed trump in deportations, police funding, military expansion, strike breaking and even fuckin oil and drilling lol

Then theres the whole radio silence on abortion rights, keeping trump's tax breaks, arming nazis in Ukraine and letting covid benefits expire, but those are things libs will give him points for

By any objective measure Biden is worse than Trump, except maybe in personal sexual assault cases

lmao fuck voting in national elections under these monstrous conditions, all the moral signaling about why voting for Trump is wrong applies even more to Biden

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 33 points 1 year ago

Hey now, there's an election coming up within the next two years, this isn't the time for debate.

[–] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 29 points 1 year ago

Yeah but at least he wasn't boorish about it

[–] Lovely_sombrero@hexbear.net 45 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I saw those posts immediately after 2022 midterms. Can't wait for Biden to lose and the entire Dem establishment and the media will blame the left for it.

[–] zifnab25@hexbear.net 40 points 1 year ago

Excited to hear how Trans People Should Have Voted Harder as we get another round of street protests and cop killings.

[–] SunriseParabellum@hexbear.net 43 points 1 year ago

They started that shit the day after Biden won.

Can anybody confirm if the /r/politics circlejerks are even real people? For a good 4 years I never met anyone who fit the /r/politics vibe outside of that subreddit.

Like I'm trying to emphasize that for 4 years, no notable user in a niche subreddit, nobody on Discord, nobody on other forums, no real life colleague or family member ever actively engaged with that subreddit. The place was always weird.

[–] wild_dog@hexbear.net 32 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

i have, i met them playing bar trivia. they always wanted me on their team because the host always asked super niche music and sports questions that i knew the answers to but they also would always try to pick fights with me in between rounds about politics. it didn't bother me much bc i would just get drunk and lightly bully them over it.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's regional.

I think some locations, like NYC, DC, and significant portions of the west coast are where you'll find /r/politics enlightened centrists. The lattermost I can confirm for myself. yea

Real DNC flaks. Reddit has been controlled opposition since the '00s.

Its always funny how ranked choice voting is never a topic of discussion when the duopoly tries to fearmonger the spoiler effect.

[–] Florist@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago

It is talked about, at least on r/politics. Most of the commenters think that will solve American politics, lmao

RES reminded me that the redditor who posted it, TheExtremistModerate, is a fan of the Iron Front.

Iron Front

The Iron Front (German: Eiserne Front) was a German paramilitary organization in the Weimar Republic which consisted of social democrats, trade unionists, and democratic socialists. Its main goal was to defend social liberalism and democracy and freedom against totalitarian ideologies on the far-right and far-left.

TheExtremistModerate, is a fan of the Iron Front

It was a trending meme back when /r/Communism and the other leftist subs weren't entirely de-moderated and neutered/banned by admins. Not shocked to see he got in on the party.

But the whole "Which side would you Stan in 1930s Germany?" was already horribly cringe and gross. Just a bunch of armchair dweebs fantasizing of a time and place when hunting your neighbors for support was socially acceptable.

Hillary Clinton would have carpet bombed Syria. She expressly stated she was going to No Fly Zone them and in private conversations said Libya was a model for how to toppled Assad.

how could she have done that? i mean without starting a war with russia and immolating us all. that's what restrained Trump too, he loved bombing Syria when he did, he didn't actually have a friendlier disposition on that front

Every election it's the leftists' turn to compromise to avoid total disaster. When is the libs' turn to compromise and vote in somebody remotely left-wing or be blamed for a Trump victory?

scolding people into voting for someone is sure to work

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago (2 children)

"Get behind Joe Biden's policies, or you're gonna get behind Trump's policies,"

It's so blatant how literally all they have is "Vote Biden or else"

it's funny because unlike almost everything else in this stupid world (e.g., living through environmental collapse, pay taxes in exchange for virtually nothing except imperialism and corporate subsidies, drink water full of microplastics and PFAS, eat poisoned food, ) not voting for Biden actually is the one thing I do not have to do my dude

[–] PZK@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago

Of course he would never understand, hes part of the problem.
