Any gamers here? I play a lot of Destiny 2, and I've been meaning to give Deep Rock Galactic a go!

Deep rock is a lot of fun, even with randoms online. Although I haven't played it for quite awhile. Been playing a lot of D4 lately, but kind of just waiting for season 1 to start soon.

Also looking forward to Cities Skylines 2 and Starfield!

[–] Aaron@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 year ago

Oooh I'm looking forward to Starfield as well. I'm hoping it's a game I can get lost in. Also second d Deep Rock, it's an enjoyable time with friends for sure.

Far more than I should - pc and xbox. Been gaming for over 20 years and gone through nearly all of it - Pokémon on Gameboy to Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Not a huge fan of MMORPG but currently working my way through war thunder with my oldest kid

[–] sadbehr@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Hell yea. Gaming is love, gaming is life.

What did you think of AC Odyssey? Heaps of people rip on it but I bloody loved it. The combat was great.

[–] lordp@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I loved it, took away my #1 AC game from Black Flag. Several full playthroughs, on both characters.

[–] sadbehr@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago

Hell yea. I tried Black Flag after Odyssey for about an hour and it didn't really grab me so much. I'll probably try it again another day as I know it's considered one of the best AC games.

[–] WaterBottleOnAShelf@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I saw on Skill Up (Aussie gaming news channel on Youtube) the other day that Ubisoft are rumoured to be doing a full remake of Black Flag. Cannot wait. That game is 100% the best game in the Assassin's Creed franchise... even if it's not really what fulfils the normal genre of Assassin's Creed

[–] lordp@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'd love a remaster of the original game personally, better graphics, improved control scheme etc

[–] WaterBottleOnAShelf@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

I think the plan is a remake rather than a remaster, which is even better. Remaster is usually just a graphical upgrade but the core game stays the same. Remake is completely redoing the game on a new game engine with all the modern improvements you gain from that. I'd assume they'd use the engine being made for Skull and Bones (or just scrap skull and bones completely and merge it into new black flag)

[–] HappycamperNZ@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Playing through it now - the only issue i have is that apart from the spear there isn't really anything assassin. Good game though, lots to do.

Deep rock is fun but haven’t anyone to play with! Sadly I’m in a deep study mode for a few weeks haha but would give it a go!

[–] sadbehr@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're mining the academic world for exam points!

What platform are you on? There's a somewhat "official" DRG discord that has LFG channels for all the different platforms, as well as heaps of other info. I can give you the link if you'd like, or you can probably google "deep rock Galactic discord".

[–] Whitt@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I’m on the discord! Just haven’t had any time and yea almost done training then I’ll have so much free time! I’m PC.

[–] fritata_fritato@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I mostly play xbox these days. Spending a lot of time playing Doom 1 and 2. Nothing matches Doom for speed.

I have a decent ps1 and ps2 collection. Retro gaming became popular in the last couple of years and mostly priced me out of the hobby.

[–] Qualanqui@lemmy.fmhy.ml 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If it's speed you're after try Titanfall 2, my son is really good and watching him play is enough to give you seizures it's so fast paced.

[–] WaterBottleOnAShelf@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So sad that Respawn never got around to finish making Titanfall 3 :(

[–] Qualanqui@lemmy.fmhy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

So sad EA axed Titanfall 3, Respawn started making it but EA bought them out and demanded they make it a battle royale which they didn't want to do so EA just axed it instead. Iirc of course, don't quote me on it but I'm pretty sure this is how it went down.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 year ago

Emulators work brilliantly for ps1 and 2. You can even enhance the graphics. I'm playing Burnout 3 and it looks amazing

[–] SamC@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yep! Mostly play simulation / base builder type games these days. Currently playing Tropico 6.

[–] sadbehr@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What platform are you on? My last sim/construction type game was Roller Coaster Tycoon about 20 years ago! I don't know what those games are like these days.

[–] SamC@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Steam (on Linux). The games in this genre are pretty sophisticated these days, e.g. Rimworld, Factorio, etc. Cities Skylines is such a good simulation that it's used by real world city planners.

[–] sadbehr@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Jeez. So they're kinda like the Flight Simulators of the building/planning world? That's awesome.

[–] SamC@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not all of them. I mean, I guess you could use Rimworld to test out how you would build a colony of militant cannibals! 😂

[–] sadbehr@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

Haha I haven't played Rim World. To me it sounds like an ass eating game.

[–] WaterBottleOnAShelf@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

Check out the Youtube series 'City Planner Plays Cities Skyline' he actually plans out and manages the cities he makes with absolutely everything: Water pipelines, power utilities, different levels of road and traffic management, zoning for commercial/residential/commerce etc. He even designs and implements things like University Campuses and National Parks into his cities.

[–] jevon@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 year ago

You bet! I'm actually trying to make a game (PC base builder called Adaptory). I've been playing a lot of Timberborn and Diablo 2 recently.

[–] chrizbie@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I inherited a 2DS, where do you buy games!

[–] chrizbie@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh I don't know I modified mine hah

Destiny was high up on a list here of 'games you wouldn't recommend' haha

I'm currently replaying Bayonetta on hard mode, Also Burnout 3 on the ps2 emulator.. goddam it's still so good after all this time. And finally getting around to Darkwood, which is also great.

I used to play a lot of CS and FEAR and CoD, but cheaters and ~~loot boxes~~ gambling for kids ruined everything so now I just stick to single player games.

[–] fritata_fritato@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Burnout takedown is so good.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The soundtrack (and also Tony Hawk's) was so influencial

[–] HappycamperNZ@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I had music from Tony hawk at my wedding, and burnout Playlist as my gym music

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago

fuck yeah! that's epic!

[–] HappycamperNZ@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Im gutted that only revenge is avaliable on the Xbox store.... and paradise but its just not the same.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

Paradise was average as. Revenge was good but it lacked the feel of 3.

[–] HappycamperNZ@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Im going to need that emulator and any advice you may have fir using it on Xbox 1

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don't have an xbox emulator yet, the ones I use are PCSX2 and duckstation. They are basically a 1 click install on linux. Not sure about windows but should be pretty easy.

PM me if you get stuck

[–] HappycamperNZ@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How do you find games legally ~~or otherwise~~

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

Roms are available online. The hard part is the bios. PM me if you get stuck

[–] sylverstream@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Xbox gamer here. Currently doing Overwatch 2 but keen to try other games. I've tried Deep rock galactic once but don't think I liked it after a short try. But heard many good stories about it. So will give it another chance!

[–] sadbehr@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I tried Overwatch 2 and I didn't like the movement. Maybe it's because I play Destiny 2 which has pretty damn good movement and freedom of movement. Ow2 just felt slow and janky to me.

As for Deep Rock. Well first it has a 97% Overwhelmingly Positive rating on steam, out of 170k reviews. That's pretty insane! Second, I suspect it would be much better with friends/other people. Unfortunately there's no Crossplay :(

Edit: There's a Deep Rock discord that has LFG channels for all the different platforms and things. I can give you the link if you'd like, or you can probably google "deep rock Galactic discord".

[–] sylverstream@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

Thanks, think I found the discord server. Will give the game a try again. I tried single player indeed which wasn't much fun.

Overwatch 2 movement is pretty good for me, I'm playing on xbox. I found Destiny 2 too overwhelming. So many options :)

[–] d3Xt3r@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yep. I play on PC, PS5 and Switch. Mostly into A/RPGs, RTSes, and retro games/platformers. Currently playing:

  • Switch: Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • PS5: God of War. Planning to play Ragnarok next, and the new Cyberpunk DLC when it comes out.
  • PC: Played Diablo 4 for a bit but it sucked, so went back to playing Project Diablo 2. Also playing Age of Empires 2 HD and Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.
[–] sadbehr@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I still need to finish God of War. I'm a couple hours into it.

I was pretty hardcore mad into Diablo 3. I played both Diablo 4 open betas and yea it was cool, but I knew that Blizzard were just gonna squeeze every goddamn dollar out of it and that's why I didn't buy it, and I'm glad I didn't to be honest!

[–] jevon@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago

I bought D4 reluctantly and it's OK, I guess, but I'm kinda bored of it already. The art is spectacular but the gameplay is kinda dull.

[–] WaterBottleOnAShelf@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

I had to get out of Age of Empires 2 HD. I got it on gamepass when it came out this time round and all the nostalgia of young 12 year old me came back which was great! What was less great is I totally forgot how much of a time limbo you go into playing that game, especially since you can sometimes spend 3 hours on a campaign level and not only lose, but realise by the end of that time that you actually lost a long time ago and were simply prolonging your loss. That game really decimates your time.

[–] flashmedallion@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago

Just finished doing nearly everything in TotK, have been playing FF16 lately and am halfway through the NG+ on hard mode.

Going on holiday for a month but when I get back I'll finish that, then finish the game I'm making, and then get balls deep into Baldurs Gate 3 with a friend.

[–] WaterBottleOnAShelf@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

In the big this-gen console drought of the past few years I managed to pick up an Xbox Series X last year, probably around this time of the year. During that time I rinsed sooooo maaanny gamepass games it was incredible.

For the past month or so, like everyone else, i've been deep inside Hyrule although I must be nearing the end of my time there as i've only got about 5 more shrines to find, have lit up the entirety of the depths, almost have full zonaite battery. Only thing left to do story wise I think is to chat with Purah about going into that big ol' scary castle in the middle of the map!

Later in the year I'm gonna get back into Cyberpunk (when the new DLC hits) and continue through that. But in between I think i'm going to need a non-open world, more linear type game I can smash through. Hopefully more narrative based as open world games aren't particularly gripping in that regard.

I was also really into PSVR a few years ago (I think I have 150+ PSVR games on the PS4) so I will get a PS5 at some point and then also get the new PSVR2. I've heard the jump in clarity and smoothness is enormous so i'm pretty excited about that.
