People who have renounced their citizenship is specifically a disqualification for owning a firearm in the US. They should’ve done their reSEaRcH first.

Also, you can’t buy a firearm and then be rejected on the background check. It works the other way around: pass background check, then buy firearm. Probably a grammatical error, but yeah, words matter.

As for advice: go down to your local hospital and tell them you need to have your head examined due to obvious blunt force trauma.

Kinda. You can buy one, pay for it, and start the background check in the store. They don't hand it over until the background check clears, but you did already pay for it. It can take ten minutes, or a few days. I'm sure the shop will give you a refund if it fails, but I can't attest to that. Just went through it a few weeks ago.

If you're not a US citizen, you don't have a Second Amendment right.

Noncitizen residents in the US are protected by the constitution. This includes the second amendment.

The second amendment talks about the right to keep and bear arms, not to purchase them.

They are free to buy them in the imaginary country they belong to, following their imaginary regulations.

ATF website:

An alien legally in the U.S. is not prohibited from purchasing firearms unless the alien is admitted into the U.S. under a nonimmigrant visa and does not meet one of the exceptions as provided in 18 U.S.C. 922(y)(2), such as possession of a valid hunting license or permit.

[18 U.S.C. 922 (d)(5), (g)(5) and (y)(2); 27 CFR 478.11 and 478.32(a)(5)

I was a bit surprised myself! Now to let my wife know she can buy me a gun for Christmas!

It's crafted more to keep tourists from buying guns while visiting--my interpretation. If you're here as a tourist for sporting activities, then it's different.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Nope. Bought my wife a pink pistol for Christmas and did some research. She's a legal alien, perfectly good to own a weapon.

Funny notes:

I had NO idea how much Filipinos are into 1911 pistols! (The classic Colt .45 style.) I have found my people. I actually have one made in the Philippines, Rock Island Armory, .22WMR.

When I first met my wife I sent her a text about loving the 1911 and how entwined it was with the history of her country. She didn't respond for a bit, thought I blew it.

The gun I linked is some badass bang for the buck (not stumping for that particular vendor). Friend told me how much he loved his, now I get it. If I had some folding money, I'd get the olive version.

“Any advice?”

Go cry.

[–] d00phy@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

Well, first thing sovcit absolutely did not buy a shotgun today.

[–] Gerudo@lemm.ee 11 points 2 weeks ago

I'm pretty sure in a lot of places this would flag them for any future purchase too.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Did they buy the gun, or were they rejected?

Anyway, nobody tell them about gun shows

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ever been to a show where you can buy without a background check? I haven't. And yes, you can wheel and deal in the parking lot, I guess, never seen that either. It's rare to see anyone outside with a weapon in the open, it's really not done old boy.

Hell, we can't bring guns into the show and there are cops everywhere looking for people fucking around. And that's in NW Florida, a conservative hellhole.

The "gun show loophole" is such a tiny portion of sales it amounts to a rounding error.

CAVEAT: I hardly ever attend those shows. Buncha MAGA nuts, though not as bad as some might imagine. Bought a canteen off a 3% guy, didn't know till I walked off, wish I had his pic. Tried to find him as a vendor and failed. :(

I have in fact been to 5 gun shows that don't do background checks, and changed my mind about buying one I'd had my eye on when the guy behind the table opened with "I am not legally required to check your ID, just to ask if you intend to use a firearm to commit a crime, and I can't sell to you if you say yes". This was in Arkansas, around 2014-2015

[–] riodoro1@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Op must be black. They denied him a shotgun!?

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

A surprising number of sovcits are black.
