It would be more accurate if they showed a picture of Russell M Nelson. I grew up Mormon and if you didn't pay your 10%, it didn't matter how little you made. You could be barred from taking the sacrament, participating in blessings, and prevented from going to the temple.

10% is great if you're content with doing the bare minimum for God, I guess.
Not only that, but you get to claim your tithe as a deduction so you can pay even less taxes.

We were always so poor growing up, relatively speaking, we had a decent standard of living. Never had any money for toys and vacations, but when that collection basket came around we somehow always had enough to donate at least a twenty. Sometimes I even got to drop it in the basket. All for the privilege of being brainwashed and bored out of my mind for a couple of hours every Sunday.
