I used to know a vegan "hunter". His buddies would bring guns and he'd bring a camera. His idea of getting a "kill" was getting an incredible wildlife photo. I always respected that.

My cousin does that!
He's not vegan, just doesn't see the point in yet another family member taking game when there's enough to go around already. We vibe like that, me and him, but I never had good cameras when I tried it lol.
He's gotten old enough that he's not doing it as often, but he usually goes out whenever one of the younger generation go on their first trip.
He's a film only photog though. He does it for pleasure, and enjoys the entire process too much to go digital.
Film is very fun and exciting when developing yourself. It's very rewarding seeing the image project on and start forming, and it turned out better than thought. I tend to shoot better on film too because a lot of care is taken each shot. Great hobby to have if you're out in the wild doing other stuff anyway.

Not vegan but this is also how I "hunt.". It pairs very well with my love of the outdoors.
It's like they heard the term Hunter Gatherer's and thought I hate hunting so much I'm going to deliberately ignore the other part.

Shooting guns is fun and while I don't morally completely oppose hunting, I think that's the bigger factor in what you're referring to as opposed to killing an animal.

okay so a great YouTube channel is a gatherer very seriously stalking and pouncing on plants that they gather, like Calvin hunting the box of cereal.
Not gonna lie, I'd watch that. Seems like it would be hilarious.
I feel like if they took it super seriously and made weekly 1 minute videos, they'd amass a pretty solid following.
