Another example of the long, well-documented tradition of scientists who know a lot about their field thinking that they consequently know a lot about everything else and being utterly incapable of staying in their lane.

Technocracy nerds are hilarious because of this. Le science people are just as prone to ideological thinking as anyone else.

TBH, not that surprising. I haven't watched her videos, but STEM faculty can be often be quite reactionary, especially in fields that are much more of a white boys club like physics. I have had numerous heated arguments with transphobes in my department and related departments and despite all this "universities are Marxist/Liberal bastions", even saying pronouns in introductions is a very unpopular thing with the faculty (students and staff less so). And this is despite my department having quite above average number of LGBTQ people in it.

Ooof, the leopards will eat her eventually.

Does she know what Jordan Peterson thinks of women over 20? Or does she just hate herself that much?

she's a business owner, it's in her class interests for capitalism to keep going

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

I've never met a nice business owner.

she says nothing about Jordan Peterson in the video, that's just the post title

The comment section is pretty good on this one.

I believe you but youtube comments give me psychic damage so I refuse to read them

Quite sad because it is a channel I otherwise enjoy and I do find her commentary useful obviously in science but even "adjacent" areas like climate change etc she wasn't this level of bad.

Now given first she makes a video effectively "preemptively" apologizing and dismissing criticism and then this shit, sigh I don't know, just sad and disappointing. The fact the two most recent videos are so tightly correlated I think makes it clear she is trying to diversify and is now also trying to make this transition by slowly driving away even liberals and just going all in on her personality cult.

I'll also go against some of the comments here because this sort of content is extremely out of touch with her viewers IMO even with the liberal types its at fucking 14k-8k ration in 24h.

I'm not sure where exactly it went wrong on her content pipeline, it is extremely puzzling.

The people that want to be told capitalism is great are fucking boomers in general, those that want to feel less guilty about destroying the world etc, specially Dem voters in the US. But that is not her viewership and besides she isn't even in the US anyway.

The millennial/gen X types are obviously not leftist enough to be socialist but are definitely "left" enough to see a photo of a black child starving in Africa and not go smiling and saying "yep Capitalism is extremely successful, yep 100% agree science lady".

As I said very surprising how out of touch she is with this one.

Sabine's heel turn has been really discouraging. I think her commentary on the stagnation of progress in physics has been influential and important. And while she's definitely riding the Contrarian wave with her science communication videos, they are often a really good supplements to new science stories in mainstream media, going into much more depth.

She's now on the classic Intellectual Dark Web glide path, which starts with producing commentary about wider social issues, and in the process just regurgitating the same reactionary shit that gets clicks. The algo with reward her, and she'll just coast into screeds about whatever weird reactionary niche ends up speaking to her heart.

It started even earlier when she joined a right wing Twitter mob against Wikipedia. Reactionaries were making a fuss about Wikipedia funding lib anti-racism things and told Sabine Hossenfelder. She then immediately tweeted that this was unacceptable and she disavows Wikipedia etc. etc. If she really cared so much about the scientific method, she wouldn't have just immediately agreed with reactionaries about Wikipedia. She also would have better criticism of Wikipedia.

Wikipedia is consistently anti-communist and relies on imperial core capitalist sources

i sleep

Wikipedia decides to be slightly less racist

She also believes there's no free will, which is a pretty common belief with these people. It literally cannot be her fault guys, she doesn't have free will, her being a piece of shit was determined at the start of the universe.
