Trump, the same Trump that killed boarder legislation because he didn't want to give biden a win?

Not him, no, never.

I'm gonna need more than somebody's social media post on this.

Edit: Because right now it's "somebody's" social media post with an unsourced and undated quote from "someone" referring to "reporting," with a picture of a lady that has a PBS/NewsHour watermark. This is exactly the kind of thing you should be skeptical of in the absence of better confirmation, all up and down that ladder of vagueness.

I would delete it but it's too relevant to the meme. Alternative link to the dnc footage would be nice, tho.

[–] Habahnow@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The rueters one doesn't indicate anything about Trump talking to Bibi and discouraging him from setting up a peace deal.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 23 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

To me it's still relevant because it establishes that trump has an open line of communication to bibi and he is directly expressing to him his thoughts about the Genocide in Gaza.

Wish there was more reporting around this.

Agreed. The "lady" is Judy Woodruff, PBS anchor and correspondent since it was the MacNeill-Lehrer News Hour, so it would greatly surprise me if she didn't have some credible evidence behind "the reporting is".

But I missed that moment last night, so I'd want to be sure she said it.

So like the alleged deal between the Reagan campaign and Iran during the hostage crisis to get elected and oust Carter?

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 95 points 3 months ago

Or Kissinger and North Vietnam to get Nixon elected. It's a time honored Republican strategy.

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 22 points 3 months ago (3 children)

What do you mean? Oliver North took all the blame!

[–] TurnpikeRangers@lemmy.world 60 points 3 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Oh no, you're thinking of Iran-Contra, the other treasonous act that Reagan committed involving Iran. OP is talking about the rumored deal Reagan made with Iran wherein Iran would not release the American hostages until after the 1980 election. Coincidentally, the hostages were released on January 20th, 1981, the day Reagan was sworn in.

Sidenote, has anyone seen the Netflix documentary about the octopus murders? I think the proof that Reagan made that deal is at the heart of that conspiracy.

Edit: I've just come across this in another thread. It seems the hostage deal between Reagan and Iran did, in fact, happen. https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/a43368900/reagan-iran-hostages/

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 24 points 3 months ago

Aw shucks. You know just when you think you hone in on one depraved scandal of Reagan, you realize you're mixing it up with another depraved scandal of Reagan.

It is crazy to me that all of the "Genocide Joe" crowd don't see that Netanyahu wants Trump to win so he can show the world what genocide actually looks like.

Well, not that crazy, considering a good portion of them are propagandists.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 19 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

It all so closely resembles 2016. Remember the phantom Bernie Facebook groups? Remember "Bernie supporters" voting trump instead. They think we are idiots and some of us must be for falling for it, time, and time again.

[–] ChronosTriggerWarning@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I've noticed a considerable lack of the usual suspects from that particular crowd in this thread.

Isn't him doing that illegal? Like very illegal?

[–] paholg@lemm.ee 48 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Do you think either Trump or Netanyahu gives a single shit about what's legal?

[–] orrk@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (2 children)

look, he’s doing this in the context of his presidential duties, this makes it completely legal, duh, fucking serfs getting uppity. ~~SCOTUS

Maybe if they stopped sending billions in weapons to Israel they could make something happen.

Reagan did the same thing with the hostages in the embassy in Iran.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 23 points 3 months ago

Lol I was like "hold on, I've seen this one"

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's posts like this that always oddly have 0 tankie comments lamenting about genocide Joe. Weird how that is, it's like they avoid all articles that disprove their entire worldview. Crazy.

The only reason I could believe it, is that it's happened before. See: Reagan and the Iran hostages.

Still, I'm going to need a better source. This seems uncharacteristically competent.

I don't want an end to killing because the killing helps me.

[–] Kalysta@lemm.ee 12 points 2 months ago

It’s Iran-Contra all over again.
