The New York State Department of Transportation wrote in 2021 that adding a lane to New York State Route 17 “would improve the flow of traffic and reduce delays, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions as a result of traffic congestion.”

If only there was some other, better way better way to reduce traffic.

Every model. Every data collection. Every city's experience. Every time we've tried it, adding more lanes just makes a bigger traffic jam and puts more carbon in the air for no return.

Given the long term damage cars are doing to our climate, this should be classified as criminal by the administration involved.
