This is why leaving Reddit was easy. This was like my first interaction ten years ago.
Are users notified when their report is declined? Lol
Not technically, no. But I believe users on Reddit can be issued warnings if they abuse the report feature, which many of them do.
Not that I would know, having not been on Reddit since June.
But I believe users on Reddit can be issued warnings if they abuse the report feature
I got a warning for reporting the comment-reposting bots. Basically their reply was there's nothing to report because it's not against the rules.
I never had one declined, and I was basically a mod of /r/accidentalswaatika with how much I reported rule violations.
I don’t believe lemmy notifies users if their report is dismissed. I started off messaging users and telling them what action (of any) I was going to take. But there’s too many of them now so I either dismiss them, or delete the offending comment and give the person who violated the rules a warning.
You know who doesn't act like asshats when they get banned? Spammers. Even spammers are like "yeah I get it" lol.
I have a youtube account and was once accused of stealing content from my own reddit account, which had identical usernames. Plus the reddit account had a link to the youtube channel and vice versa.
... but even tho it was a bit of a brain fart, I still appreciate that people are looking out for potential content thieves. I'm not even mad - I'd rather get a false positive every now and then instead of having my content stolen (again).
No idea why this is just a screenshot of a Word document but the source is this.
42_words was (is?) a user who ran a sub of the same name. Every post, including this one, had 42 words. So does this comment.
The photo is literally a screenshot of that tweet, just not in dark mode. Why on earth would it be from a word document?! Or was that addition purely so you could make your comment 42 words long? Like this one is.
The average lemmy user probably forgets that light mode exists on twitter.
i forget that twitter or whatever we call it now even exists
edit: im now calling it twix
Don't tarnish the delicious name of Twix :<
Hey, we only accept responses that are 42 words long in this thread. You best try again.
Hmm, wonder what else I can say to get this to 42 words. Wouldn't you know it, this is just enough to make it work.
light what now? what's light?
Reminds me of the time I got into an argument on Twitter, and I asked someone for proof of something, and they sent me a screenshot of a Wordpad document. I said I was born in the afternoon, but not that afternoon.
I run a porn community and one of my posts got reported for being NSFW. On an NSFW community. On an NSFW instance. I don't know what they were expecting.
Probably, neither did they.
I mean, were they wrong?
That's like the people who were outraged about Snoop Dogg smoking weed before the superbowl halftime show.
What instance? Asking for biological research
Now do the right thing and block yourself from the sub you are moderating.
Funnily enough you can’t do that. You also can’t remove yourself as a mod if you created the community.
you can if there's other mods no?
since it's Reddit you can also just remove your account
Nope. Check out !badrealestate and you’ll see this account as mod and a few other SomeoneElse that are me. And there’s somebody29 which is an alt account I no longer use. I can’t remove it as mod as I used it to create the community. I believe the instance owner can remove it but they haven’t replied to me.

"So somebody just explained to me how what I'd just posted to a subreddit wasn't suitable for that sub.
I replied that, as the creator, moderator and basically only contributor to said subreddit, I respectfully disagreed.
And he reported me.
To me."

You are prolific with this. I see you as much as I used to see sprog and portarossa
Oh, I don't think I'm that prolific, but I appreciate it.
Yes, text as image is dumb. Why do people do that?
Easier to share a post with words on it than to copy paste things everywhere? Also makes context that much easier, too.
Personally I'd prefer a screenshot of a post than just a copy-paste of the post, easier to see the context, etc., and I'm also more aware that it's not the OP's take, but something they saw.
