It requires a certain security software installed on windows. Yes it is still going on since IT admins have to boot into safe mode to fix it.
So this is something that mostly is for enterprise, not consumers?
I believe it’s a Crowdstrike EDR software update pushed through a windows update that caused the outage, which is definitely not a consumer solution.
Having had something to do with endpoint management in my past life, this is exactly the reason why we roll out updates gradually, and not to everyone all at once. My current employer did this the right way, and we had like 20% of the endpoints blue screen and we could actually function today while we worked through the issue.
Good thing my company pays to maintain Windows 7 & 10 and I didn't notice a damn thing.
Yeah when I worked at BioWare we would do things gradually, then I moved to EA Mobile and staging and testing was like a foreign concept. It was wild. Fortunately that changed, but having a staging instance is really really important, as I'm sure many people now realize. Sometimes lessons are hard. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You are correct.
