Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

A republican? But donates to Democrats?

[–] the_itsb@hexbear.net 59 points 4 months ago (3 children)

By my math, if he's 20 now, that would have made him 17 in June 2021 when he donated, which is also too young to vote. He would have had to register as a Republican after that donation, and records show he voted in 2022.

what if he was the famed radical centrist i keep hearing about

[–] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 41 points 4 months ago

Might be. A liberal adventurist scared of Project 2025.

[–] the_itsb@hexbear.net 24 points 4 months ago

emphasis on radical?

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago

The brainworms in this country for this to even remotely be a serious possibility

2022? So he's never voted in a presidential election? Something seems fishy about this whole thing now

[–] the_itsb@hexbear.net 48 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

So he's never voted in a presidential election?

If he was 20 as of July 13, 2024, then he would have been 16 on July 13, 2020, and in no way eligible to vote in the 2020 election

Something seems fishy about this whole thing now

the motivations of 20-year-olds can be mysterious even to the 20-year-olds

Idk, we will probably learn more soon; it's rare for a 20-y-o American to have no digital trail, so there's more information out there.

Maybe he wanted to impress Jodie Foster!

[–] macabrett@lemmy.ml 26 points 4 months ago

my money's on him being a terminally online kid from 4chan who is obsessed with pedophiles and keeps seeing the epstein stuff

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

He has a Discord, if was probably a dare

[–] Philosoraptor@hexbear.net 12 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The conservative narrative I've seen now is that he was such a committed liberal that he registered Republican to sabotage their primaries from within.

My eyes rolled so far back into my head that they came around to the front again

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 36 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

What many of these dumb mainstream outlets leave out is that he donated to Democrats BEFORE he changed his party affiliation to Republican, and then voted Republican. Of course, conservatives will completely ignore that last bit because it suits their narrative, and outlets like NBC only help strengthen it.

Still, doesn't add up in my book. Supposedly he was a Republican gun enthusiast? Trumps for the 2nd amendment and endorsed by NRA. The fbi may just be trying to prevent a war from happening or something. The fbi definitely doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to honesty.

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 54 points 4 months ago (3 children)

That's because your book doesn't paint a full picture of the right and all the factions within. You probably think every right-winger is either a MAGA supporter or a generic NeverTrumper. There are right-wing groups more radical than MAGA, who are very anti-Semitic and believe that Trump and his followers are too moderate. These are actual Neo-Nazi groups, who hate Jews, and want a race war. They're much more ideological, and they don't really care about the cult surrounding Trump, they just want to work towards an ethnostate. Many of them even believe that MAGA is a hindrance to further radicalization of the right and white nationalist politics, and supported DeSantis over Trump. I wouldn't be surprised if the shooter is a groyper. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groypers

[–] duderium@hexbear.net 24 points 4 months ago

We’ve talked about this on hexbear before, how Neo-Nazis actually support Biden because he gives so much support to the Nazis who run Ukraine. Some Neo-Nazis at least think that Trump is too “Jewish,” has a Jewish son-in-law, etc. Trump has been quite vocal about ending support to Ukraine if he wins the election.

[–] GlueBear@hexbear.net 14 points 4 months ago (7 children)

If he's more extreme than the MAGA crowd then how would that explain his democrat past? That's such a radical change in political ideology over such a short time.

He was probably terrified of project 2025.

half the people here were generic centrist libs in 2016 and turbomaoist anarcho-tankies with dolphin characteristics in 2017

[–] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 26 points 4 months ago (1 children)

In 2017 I was a russiagate crank cringe

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Lmao dweeb
I've never been wrong though, so don't look into my past

[–] nat_turner_overdrive@hexbear.net 38 points 4 months ago

Kids can have dramatic, drastic changes in politics in quite short periods

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 36 points 4 months ago

My guy have you never been 17? You are like an empty bucket waiting to be loaded with ideas. He was in highschool at 17, graduated, no indications he went to college, and does what for the next 3 years? Works a deadbeat job and possibly hangs out online a lot?

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 18 points 4 months ago

According to public records, he registered as a Republican in 2021, and voted as Republican in 2022, before Project 2025 was even leaked to the public. I don't know why a chud would be terrified of Project 2025 unless he was undergoing a political change of heart again, or was a closeted queer person who realized what it would mean for him. It doesn't seem very likely to me.

[–] IceWallowCum@hexbear.net 17 points 4 months ago

"Ideology" is not a fixed thing, specially in unstable times and with the internet around. This is a confused person experiencing material decline with access to guns and internet forums, and that's probably as deep as it goes. It only gets confusing if you think it is supposed to make sense on it's own (ie. the whole analysis begins and ends with the parties and this one individual, nothing else). This is why marxists talk so much about "material conditions", which is what makes nebulous political phenomena make sense

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 12 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Most of the people here on hexbear would like a word with you

[–] the_itsb@hexbear.net 3 points 4 months ago

I was 17 in 1999 and 20 in 2002

1999 me and 2002 me were sooooo incredibly different

honestly makes me wonder about people who didn't change a bunch from late teens to early 20s. like, that's the time of your life you're supposed to be changing rapidly and becoming a totally different person as you separate from your family and become an adult – was your childhood just that awesome and leftist or were you sheltered or what

[–] GlueBear@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

~~i know I'm one of them 🫠~~

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago

Democrats are also right wing

[–] the_itsb@hexbear.net 2 points 4 months ago

yeah, right here with you, I'm thinking either Groyper or Boogaloo

[–] marx_mentat@hexbear.net 23 points 4 months ago

Donated on inauguration day so he 100% lost a bet and had to donate.
