Calling this glitchless is a little misleading, unless you're suggesting that carrying spells over from one run to the next was intended / normal functionality. This also requires a mod-constructed wand that isn't possible to get in a non-modded game.
It's still awesome from a theorycrafting standpoint, but there's no one arguing that this is a legitimate speedrun.
It's not a mod wand. Wands have a super rare chance of having more that 26 slots.
I think there is an effort to gather seeds and locations of 26+ slot wand spawns, in order to try and make calculators/finders.
I would agree that a run should be a run in isolation.
Defintely not glitchless, but still legitimate (in a way).
The rules on the speedrun.com page for Noita mention the exploit, but for any% you need to count any runs to acquire the wand as well, making it pretty pointless. I also don't think that you need a mod for the wand, just that doing it normally takes too long.
Apparently they are creating a category specifically for this exploit, so that it doesn't matter how you got the wand, and the 2s run would count.
I believe it's technically possible to get a wand with that many slots, though it'd be unbelievably rare, and it would definitely not have anywhere near that much mana; I don't know how much mana you'd actually need to cast this (it's actually probably pretty reasonable because of all the triggers, though.) My understanding is that it's like 1 in 10,000 to find a wand that can potentially have more than 26 slots, then you have to actually roll those slots, so it's astronomically unlikely. It would be interesting to see a speedrun category that could only be finished using this exploit, and where the wand had to be built legitimately during the previous run. The 2-second one wouldn't be reasonably possible, but one of the more reasonable ones would.
That'd be particularly interesting since it wouldn't be about building the perfect wand, just a functional one with what you could find (since even if it was very slow to work, it'd still be faster to make an inefficient one than to keep looking for a perfect one), and would require ridiculous mastery of wand construction to put something together on the fly.
I definitely feel like it's interesting. But it kind of ignores much of the point of speed running if it requires either a mod or the results of previous runs to accomplish without accounting for that.
It would be like calling a video of the last few frames before hitting the final axe of Super Mario Bros representative of an entire run.
The 2 seconds is a valid part of a complete run.
I'd say it all depends on the rules he community of each game agrees on. For Noita this is not a legit run and that is fine, but using data from different runs/saves to make another run faster is not that unusual I think. Pretty sure some jRPGs do similar things for rng manipulation and Kotor2 and Skyrim have useful glitches that appear when you leave the game running for a while before starting your run. They are not allowed, but for skyrim at least the reasoning is not that it is an invalid strat, but that the setup is too much of a pain.
I would definitely argue that this is intended. Hollow eggs have all kinds of weird abilities and are extremely important to the lore. And the wand is also completely possibe to build ingame unless i missed something. So while extremely unlikely this is theoretically possible.
Of course you are right, this is not a standard speedrun. But i still think it is insane ad very cool.
