Group communication tool recommendation (lemmy.world)

I find that I need an easy-to-use text communication tool for a small group of family members. In a past life, I would've just ponied up for a private forum subscription on Delphi or PBWorks and used that. Today I'm leaning towards Rocket.chat or Element.

We just need to be able to share information and files about an event. Any suggestions?

Teams + set up a "room"/group for all your family members.

That's an idea. I'd rather keep it small and more private if possible.
