I have not read it myself, but I believe "The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains" by Nicholas Carr might fit the premise.
It's a bit different but provides more support for the core ideas, for sure. More about our physical, neurological reactions to digital media than about the philosophical and historical aspects. I read it a few years back and enjoyed it quite a bit.
Thanks! I've heard a bit here and there about this one but somehow never picked it up. After a quick search it sounds much more specific to the internet than the more generalized "Amusing Ourselves to Death" but I think that's kind of what I'm looking for right now. Will give it a go!
