I'm glad he's retiring, he's morphing into Spielberg who just makes grandpa movies now.
I didn't even bother with once upon a time in Hollywood, I'm done with the badass white savoir bullshit. White guy beats up Bruce lee was the only thing I heard about this movie that made me nope out.
Why didn't your white guy beat a badass white dude like Bronson or Norris? Why have him beat the ethnic badass if not for white supremacy
Either you’re trolling or you need to watch a movie yourself first before jumping to conclusions on what it’s about.
There's a scene in which the white hero beats up Bruce lee. That's all I needed to know to avoid it. I know it happens in the movie, am I wrong?
You are, in fact, wrong.
Prove it
You're the one making a claim, you're the one who has to prove what you're asserting
So clearly I'm not the only one, as many people have called out the movie for it's racism. And yes believe it or not Tarantino can be racist towards someone from Hong Kong, while liking and not being racist towards black people. Racism is complicated, keep up
So Bruce Lee can beat up hundreds of white guys, because asians are good at martial arts, i guess? But there can't be one white guy in the world who beats up bruce? Racism is complicated indeed.
Oh is this what we're doing? Bringing up the whole "white people are victims too" bullshit?
Bold take for having not seen it
There's a scene where the white hero beats up Bruce lee, that's a fact. That alone guarantees that I won't want to watch it
That's not a fact, my friend. "beat up" is certainly relative, and I would absolutely say it does not apply here. Definitely not my favorite Tarantino movie but this is not the hill to die on.
I'm not dying on a hill, I'm refusing to watch a movie. Btw Michael Jai White said the same thing I did, what was the need to have the white hero beat an ethnic legend? He could have used anyone for that scene why Lee?
Because the movie takes place on a movie set and Bruce Lee was the most prominent and best fighting actor/choreographer. You are making it all about race. You could also say why does a random stuntman beat up the most talented fighter. But the answer would be boring: because it's a movie, not based on reality and the movie wants to picture that guy as a badass.
He wrote the movie, he isn't restrained, he could have picked literally anyone. But white man must beat ugly Chinese man, so let's put down the biggest Hong Kong figure in history.
Again, even without that scene, Tarantino is just lazy now and leaning on the same mediocre actors like Brad Pitt.
But hey man, if you're ok with anti Asian racism own it, don't jump hoops to claim it isn't what it is
Have you heard about a movie called "Django Unchained"?
Believe it or not, a person can like black people while being racist towards someone from Hong Kong. Imagine that? QT is no stranger to being called out on his racism towards Chinese or Hong Kong peoples.
Racism is complicated, it's not "oh look he made a pro black movie, therefore he can't be racist towards an Asian!". Black people and Asians aren't the same you know
The vast majority of the people dying in his his movies are white. This you're okay with but killing an asian is an indication of him being racist towards asians. How does that work exactly?
Nobody killed Bruce lee, they humiliated and dissed him and his family. In any case, Tarantino's Reagan towards Chinese people isn't new, there's no debate here
That's debateable.
At the end of the day, Chinese people say it was racist and offensive, therefore it was. I don't need the opinion of some white kid about it
Speaking of racism..
Lol my native ass laughing at your victim complex. This be generation that mixes white privilege and victim complex is just wild.
