There's an itch that Piper at the Gates of Dawn scratches that almost nothing else can. Something about the whimsical tunes, fun sound effects, and Syd's vocal delivery was so unique when I first listened but I can't really find anything similar. Some Sgt Peppers and other Beatles songs do, but looking for other recommendations. Doesn't need to be 60s, but I'd be surprised to find out anyone is making that kind of music today.

Phish's first album, Junta

It has an even higher level of musicianship in the composition and improv, but yet a similar vibe to that whimsical, carefree feel in Piper, just a bit weirder lol.
